MLB Daily Leagues – Lineup Picks for August 30, 2013

P - Jered Weaver (LAA): Weaver is a very solid and affordable option against the Milwaukee Brewers. I always enjoy starting a pitcher who has never faced a team before. Milwaukee batters are very unfamiliar with what kind of pitches Weaver can deliver, and Weaver is a very solid pitcher who should dominate the fairly weak Brewer lineup. Weaver is coming off a very strong performance on the road at Seattle during which he went eight strong innings and only allowed one run on three hits with no walks. The Angels have won eight of Weaver's past 12 starts.

C - Salvador Perez (KC): Perez has really been on fire the past week. He's looking to extend his six-game hitting streak against Mark Buehrle and the Toronto Blue Jays tonight. Perez has had two hits or more in four of his past six games. He's hit 12-for-23 (.522) in the past seven days. Facing Toronto seems to favor Perez, who has notched a .425 BA over 10 career games against the Blue Jays. Right-handed batters have hit Buehrle pretty good this season with a .286 BA. Look for Perez to extend his streak and have a another multiple-hit game.

1B - Paul Goldschmidt (ARI): The 25-year-old from Texas State is having a career year. He's found a way to stay a consistent hitter and keep his power going all season. Goldschmidt's had much success against Tim Lincecum in the past, with nine hits in 17 at-bats. Those nine hits include a double and five home run. He's shown he can hit right-handed pitching this season with a .293 BA, and Paul has hit safely in 11 of his past 12 games. We all know that Lincecum isn't having an overall amazing year and he's not the same pitcher he used to be.

2B - Aaron Hill (ARZ): Hill is having one of the seasons we all knew he could have as long as he stayed healthy. He really enjoys playing at home posting a .313 BA at Chase Field. Hill has killed Linecum over his career, with seven hits in only 13 at-bats. Four of those went for doubles. Aaron has shown no signs of slowing down against right-handed pitching posting a .310 BA against them in 2013. The month of August has treated Hill well, as he's busted out a stellar .382 BA over the past 29 days. Hill seems to enjoy playing at night putting up a .304 BA under the lights in 2013.

SS - Troy Tulowitzki (COL): Tulowitzki has proved that when he's healthy, he is one of the best hitters in the game. Right now, Tulo has been healthy and is hitting the ball extremely well. He's actually been the model of consistency lately, hitting safely in 12 of the past 13 games. Troy has hit Arroyo well over his career with four hits over 10 at-bats. Tulo smashes the ball at Coors Field with a .363 BA and he's another player who has a higher night game batting average compared to during the day-- he's put up a .332 BA with the stadium lights on. Tulo's also put up a strong .323 BA against righties this season.

3B - Adrian Beltre (TEX): Texas wouldn't be in the position they are today without Beltre. Not only does he have amazing defense, but he's been killing the ball all season. Beltre has hit a .364 since the All-Star Break. If Miguel Cabrera weren't from Mars, Beltre would be one of the front-runners among AL MVP candidates. Beltre loves playing with his teammates at the home ballpark in Arlington, where he sports a robust .335 BA. He's having another hot month in August, batting a killer even .400. Beltre hasn't been hitless since August 19th. He's bringing in an eight-game hitting streak into Friday's contest.

OF - Yasiel Puig (LAD): Puig might be the most talked-about player in 2013. We've already seen him be successful in so many different areas of the game. Even after playing 76 games, he still has a very impressive .346 BA, and he isfacing Eric Stults of the San Diego Padres. He's already faced Stults three times this season, knocking two hits off him. Puig has proven to be more comfortable playing at home, posting a .382 BA at Dodger Stadium. Even though many people thought Puig would slow after the All-Star break, he's still posted a .309 BA during the month of August. Puig has really found success vs. left-handed pithcers this season, putting up a .363 against them.

OF - Austin Jackson (DET): It's always a good idea to put Jackson in your lineup when he's facing a right-handed pitcher. He's batting average is 111 points higher, with a .189 BA versus LHP and a .300 BA against RHP this season. He sees the ball well out of McAllister's hand, with four hits in only seven at-bats over his career. Jackson has also really cut down on his strikeouts, with only three over his last five contests. I think Jackson is good for a couple extra-base hits vs. Zach and the Indians tonight.

OF - Bryce Harper (WAS): Harper is smack dab in the middle of his best stretch of hitting this season. He's currently on an 11-game hitting streak. Harper's had at least two hits in four of his past five games. Dillon Gee takes the mound for the New York Mets tonight, and Harper has hit well off of him over a small sample size, with four hits in seven at-bats. Bryce has seems to enjoy playing the Mets over his career, with a .322 BA over 22 career games. Harper is another play you want to have in vs. RHP-- he's hitting .315 versus RHP compared to only .192 against LHP. He's also showing he has patience at the plate, with 13 walks this month. Look for Harper to continue his hot hitting trend vs. the Mets tonight.
