Blaze Berlowitz to Start over Jared Curtis in Week 1
Vanderbilt quarterback Blaze Berlowitz will start for the Commodores in the Week 1 matchup against Austin Peay, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. This means freshman five-star Jared Curtis will begin his career as a backup, though he is expected to play against the Governors. The two signal-callers have been batting for the QB1 role all spring and fall, but the senior is getting the nod to open the 2026 campaign. Berlowitz appeared in six games last year behind Diego Pavia, completing 19 of his 36 passing attempts for 265 yards and one touchdown. His only other game of experience came in 2023 at New Mexico. It will be worth monitoring to see if the program turns the offense over to Curtis at some point in his first year on campus.
