High-Confidence Strikeout Picks

All odds were current as of 9:00 AM ET

Gerrit Cole (vs. CWS) OVER 5.5 strikeouts (-108 Novig)

Cole has long been one of baseball's top pitchers, but a 14-month layoff after Tommy John surgery in March 2025 has kept him off the radar for a long while. The Yankees have understandably eased him back into action following his May 22nd season debut, as the righty has not thrown more than 84 pitches in any of his four outings.

Despite the tight leash in his return to action, Cole already has a double-digit strikeout performance on his season ledger. The strikeout numbers are pretty bleak outside of that start against the Royals, but those other three starts did come against two contact-oriented offenses in the Guardians and Rays.

Tonight, Cole will enter his first plus-strikeout matchup of the season. The White Sox have struck out at the third-highest rate in baseball against right-handed pitching.

The pitch arsenal looks dialed in, as the average velocity on both his four-seamer and slider is sitting a click above his 2024 levels. That data points to the lack of swing-and-miss thus far being more matchup-based than anything else, and leaves plenty of room for optimism in his strikeout totals moving forward.

Davis Martin (vs. NYY) OVER 5.5 strikeouts (+121 Novig)

Martin has been one of the biggest surprises of the 2026 MLB season. The righty has posted a sparkling 2.41 ERA across 13 starts, and he's raised his strikeout rate from 17.3% last season to 25.2% this year. Everything under the hood checks out as well, as the swinging strikes are up from 9.5% to 12.6%.

Since Aaron Judge went down, the Yankees have posted just an average 101 wRC+ as a team, and they have struck out at the 11th-highest rate in baseball. The number of lefties that New York can run out against Martin is mildly concerning, but he has also improved that previous weakness in his game.

Martin is still striking out a healthy 23.8% of lefties, and they have managed just a .251 wOBA against him this season, which is down from a .336 last season. The four lefties projected to hit at the bottom of the Yankees' lineups have all struck out over 26% of the time against righties this season.

As long as Martin can navigate the top of the order with limited damage, he should be set up for another excellent outing.
