Jonah Tong 2026 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Can The Top Pitching Prospect Have Success In The Majors?
New York Mets No. 4 prospect Jonah Tong was fantastic in the minor leagues during the 2025 season. In 22 games between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse, the 22-year-old posted a stat line that featured a 1.43 ERA, 179 strikeouts, 14.2 K/9, 3.7 BB/9, 0.92 WHIP, and a 10-5 record in 113.2 innings pitched. When he wasn't striking out minor league batters, he kept making them hit the ball on the ground, as evidenced by a GB% of 52.9. Tong also made his MLB debut in August against the Miami Marlins and notched his first-ever victory in the bigs with one earned run and six strikeouts in five innings. Through the rest of 2025, Tong struggled, allowing 24 hits, 20 runs (16 earned), and three home runs, while also recording 22 strikeouts and nine walks with a 15.0 K-BB%. Mets' manager Carlos Mendoza indicated that Tong will start the 2026 season in Triple-A Syracuse to further develop his off-speed pitches, but he should join the Major League club later in the year. Tong is confident in his fastball and changeup but said, "I want to make sure I have the same level of confidence in my other two offerings," according to Newsday. Rounding out his arsenal would increase the chances of positive fantasy returns this year. NFBC players are drafting Tong, with an ADP of 344. RotoBaller.com views him as an undervalued pitching option, as he is ranked as the 112th pitcher and 288th overall for 2026 drafts. Fantasy managers will obviously have to patiently await Tong being called up, but the payoff could be quite satisfying if his minor league success can translate to the majors in 2026.
