Marcus Freeman Staying with Notre Dame for 2026 Season
Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman announced on X that he is staying with the program for the 2026 season. Freeman has been linked to a handful of NFL head coaching jobs this cycle, but he is staying put in South Bend for at least one more year. Since becoming the full-time head coach of the Irish in 2022, Freeman has tallied a 43-11 record, including three College Football Playoff wins and a CFP National Championship appearance at the end of the 2024 campaign. Notre Dame posted a 10-2 record this season but was left out of the 12-team field. The 39-year-old is handsomely paid at Notre Dame, the he is recruiting at a high level, so it would likely take a highly attractive offer for him to make the jump to the NFL or another college football program in the future.
