Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 15:
DK Metcalf, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday that wide receiver DK Metcalf (stomach) is "moving in the right direction" and that he doesn't think it'll "jeopardize" his availability for Monday night's game against the Miami Dolphins, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor. Metcalf experienced stomach pains that resulted in a hospital visit in Baltimore following Sunday's big win over the Ravens. The 27-year-old wideout was taken to the hospital out of an abundance of caution, and he was cleared to leave the hospital to fly back to Pittsburgh on Monday.
We'll keep a close eye on Metcalf's status this week, but barring a setback, it sounds like he'll be available for fantasy managers in a strong matchup in Week 15 -- the first week of the fantasy playoffs in most leagues. Metcalf will look to keep his momentum going if he's available on Monday after his second 100-yard game and a season-high 148 receiving yards in Sunday's win over the Ravens.
Luther Burden III, WR, Chicago Bears
With Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze (foot) sidelined by a foot injury for his team's Week 14 matchup against the Green Bay Packers, rookie wideout Luther Burden III stepped into a larger role. The 21-year-old earned six targets for the second straight week and hauled in four receptions for 67 yards. After failing to reach five targets in any of his first eight games this season, Burden III has now seen at least five targets in four straight weeks. On a more negative note, Burden III was out-snapped by veteran wideout Olamide Zaccheaus in Week 14.
That signals Odunze's absence doesn't mean an automatic promotion for Burden III into Chicago's WR2 role alongside DJ Moore. Still, Burden III has flashed big-play upside throughout the season, and his workload remains on an upward trajectory. He's worth rostering in deeper fantasy formats and could be a solid flex option in Week 15 against the Cleveland Browns if Odunze remains sidelined.
Chimere Dike, WR, Tennessee Titans
Tennessee Titans rookie wide receiver Chimere Dike has earned steady usage in recent weeks and notched his third touchdown of the season in Sunday's win over the Cleveland Browns. Dike finished with a team-leading five receptions for 24 yards on eight targets, with no other Titans pass-catcher recording more than two catches or four targets.
The rookie fourth-rounder hasn't put up gaudy fantasy numbers in an overall poor Titans offensive environment, but he's emerged as rookie quarterback Cameron Ward's most reliable target. For the season, Dike has totaled 34 receptions for 284 yards and three touchdowns on 55 targets while also being one of the most dynamic kick returners on special teams. Due to the limited upside of the Titans' offense, Dike profiles as a low-end flex option heading into Week 15 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Rome Odunze, WR, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze (foot) was listed as a limited participant in practice on Thursday due to a foot injury that kept him from playing in the Week 14 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, according to Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic. Odunze is dealing with a stress fracture in his foot and was unable to practice at all last week. The Bears don't believe the 23-year-old's injury will keep him out for long, though, and a return to a limited practice on Wednesday is a good sign.
However, Odunze isn't out of the woods yet and might need to upgrade to a full practice later this week to have a chance to return for a Week 15 tilt on Sunday against the visiting Cleveland Browns. His foot injury likely explains his limited production in recent games, as Odunze hasn't had more than three catches in a game since Nov. 9. If Odunze is limited or out again in Week 15, it will mean more opportunities for rookie receiver Luther Burden III and rookie tight end Colston Loveland.
Omarion Hampton, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers rookie first-round running back Omarion Hampton returned in Week 14 against the Philadelphia Eagles and looked healthy, recording 13 carries for 56 yards to go with two receptions (two targets) for 11 yards and his first career receiving touchdown on Monday night. Hampton played firmly behind Kimani Vidal in his first game back since suffering a fractured ankle in Week 5, with Vidal playing 68.9% of the snaps to Hampton's 31.1%, but the split in touches was pretty much even.
The rookie first-rounder's workload should gradually increase in the coming weeks now that he's fully healthy, though Vidal will maintain a role with how well he performed in Hampton's absence. Hampton is now averaging 15.3 PPR points per game in six games this season and will profile as a high-upside RB2 in a Week 15 divisional matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
