Week 14 Running Back Rankings Outlooks
Travis Etienne Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. has been one of the most consistently productive backs in the NFL so far this season, recording 1,016 scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns across 12 games. The 26-year-old has recorded at least 15 touches in 10 out of 12 contests and scored four touchdowns over the last four weeks.
Jaguars rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten has played a role as the team's RB2 and looked like he might be pushing Etienne Jr. for playing time when he recorded 15 carries in Week 11 against the Los Angeles Chargers. However, in the two weeks since that game, Etienne Jr. has out-touched Tuten 31 to 16 and out-snapped him 71 to 31. Etienne Jr. appears to still have a firm grasp on the RB1 role in Jacksonville and profiles as a high-end fantasy RB2 heading into a Week 14 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
Jordan Mason, Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota Vikings running back Jordan Mason has been working firmly behind Aaron Jones Sr. (shoulder) in the team's backfield over the past month. Since Jones returned in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers, Mason has played 37.1% of the snaps to Jones' 56.5%.
Over that span, Jones has handled 71 total touches, while Mason has 42. The former San Francisco 49er has at least earned extra work closer to the end zone, handling seven carries compared to Jones with only four, and they've each found the end zone once.
Jones was removed from the injury report on Friday and will suit up against the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Minnesota's weapons have been limited recently by the poor combination of QBs J.J. McCarthy and Max Brosmer, with all of them being tough to trust for fantasy purposes right now.
The gauntlet of tough defenses faced in recent games hasn't helped, but it should get better in Week 14 against a banged-up Commanders unit—Mason projects as a low-end RB3 for Sunday in a more favorable matchup.
Chris Rodriguez Jr., Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. has emerged as the team's RB1 over the past few weeks. Rodriguez has scored in three of the past four games, and despite leaving early during Week 10's loss against the Detroit Lions, he did start that game and has handled the bulk of the carries since.
In the past two games, the 25-year-old back has 26 carries for 120 yards and one touchdown, with rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt handling 13 and Jeremy McNichols getting a little more involvement than his usual pass-down role with 10 carries. His lack of receiving ability somewhat caps Rodriguez's fantasy upside.
Still, Washington's offense should look more dynamic in Week 14 with Jayden Daniels (elbow) returning and Terry McLaurin back in the fold after his return in Week 13. Rodriguez should have a solid day on the ground against the Vikings' bottom 10 rushing defense and have a good chance of finding the end zone. He is ranked as RotoBaller's RB27 in PPR leagues in Week 14.
