Buster Faulkner, Joey Halzle Candidates for Florida Offensive Coordinator Job?
Florida football found its new head coach on Sunday, officially announcing the hiring of former Tulane and Troy head coach Jon Sumrall. The young defensive mind said one of his top priorities will be assembling "an incredible staff, including an offensive coordinator who understands that, at Florida, having an explosive offense isn't optional." On3's Pete Nakos lists Georgia Tech's Buster Faulkner and Tennessee's Joey Halzle as potential candidates for the Gators' offensive coordinator job. Faulkner is known for helping develop quarterback Haynes King and leading this year's Georgia Tech offense to compile 466.3 yards per game and 33.1 points per game. Halzle took over OC duties in Knoxville following the departure of recently-hired Auburn head coach, Alex Golesh. The Vols ranked sixth nationally in yards per game (482.0) and seventh nationally in points per game (40.8) during the regular season. Whoever takes over the Florida offense could be tasked with helping DJ Lagway realize his potential, but it remains to be seen if Lagway will stick around for the new staff in Gainesville.
