Week 10 Fantasy Football Quarterback Outlooks
Geno Smith, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith is a low-end Superflex option with his team playing an excellent Denver Broncos defense on Thursday. The veteran was a superb fantasy quarterback after his resurgence with Seattle in 2022, but this season had been mostly diminishing returns until a four-touchdown outburst last week against Jacksonville.
Even after his best game, Smith has an unsightly 1:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He has thrown 11 interceptions and 11 touchdowns through eight games, during which he's thrown for an average of just under 213 yards. Facing a Denver defense that ranks among the league's best against fantasy quarterbacks, Smith can be a bye-week fill-in if needed, but managers should favor their other options, if possible.
Bo Nix, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix will host the Las Vegas Raiders at home in Week 10 as he looks to carry the team to a seventh straight win. Through nine weeks, the Raiders have allowed an average of 224 passing yards per game this season and 11 passing touchdowns.
Nix has had some fourth-quarter magic this season, as he has made some magnificent scrambles to bolster his stats in the final minutes of the game, and we could see that trend continue if the division rivalry proves to be a close matchup. Fantasy managers should continue to trust Nix in their starting lineups with RotoBaller ranking him as QB8 overall for Week 10.
Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) will be limited in the first practice of the week on Thursday, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Purdy has only played in two games this year and not since aggravating a turf-toe injury in the Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. While the 25-year-old signal-caller has made progress, he has yet to upgrade to a full practice, which will be required of him before he's cleared to start again.
It puts his status firmly up in the air for another week for the Week 10 divisional clash against the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday. The good news is that the 49ers plan for Purdy to take on more first-team reps in practice this week, which could mean that he's on the cusp of making his return. If Purdy is unable to gain clearance to play against the Rams, Mac Jones will make his eighth start of the year. We should have more clarity on the situation later in the week.
Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said on Wednesday that quarterback Kyler Murray (foot) will go on Injured Reserve, according to Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com. "He needs to get healthy," Gannon said. Murray will be forced to miss at least four games, meaning that he won't be eligible to return until Week 14 against the division-rival Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Dec. 7. The 28-year-old has been sidelined since suffering a mid-foot sprain in the Week 5 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
The two-time Pro Bowler didn't look good in his five starts before getting hurt, going 110-for-161 for 962 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions. Veteran Jacoby Brissett has elevated the offense in his three starts in place of Murray, and if he continues to play well, Murray may remain on the bench when he returns from IR.
Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said on Wednesday that the team is still "sorting through the medical opinions" on quarterback Jayden Daniels' elbow, according to John Keim of ESPN. Daniels suffered a gruesome-looking left elbow dislocation late in the Sunday night blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks, but initial X-rays came back negative for any fractures.
It remains to be seen whether the 24-year-old suffered any ligament damage in his arm, though, and at the very least, it seems likely that the second-year signal-caller will be forced to Injured Reserve, which would require him to miss at least four games. While the Commanders are holding out hope that Daniels might return this year, we wouldn't be surprised if he's shut down the rest of the way. In the meantime, veteran Marcus Mariota will start at QB for a banged-up Commanders offense that also lost receiver Luke McCaffrey to a broken collarbone.
Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed 25 of his 35 pass attempts for 203 yards and a touchdown in a Week 9 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Although this marked his fifth consecutive game surpassing 200 passing yards, the veteran's performance was modest for fantasy purposes.
This matchup was expected to be high-scoring, but Pittsburgh's defense stepped up after allowing 30-plus points in back-to-back weeks. With the Steelers leading 24-7 early in the fourth quarter, Rodgers didn't need to do much to close things out. He'll provide more fantasy value in tighter contests, though predicting when those will come could be challenging. The 41-year-old remains a high-floor QB2 in superflex leagues ahead of a Week 10 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Tyler Shough, New Orleans Saints
New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough went 15-of-24 for 176 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Week 9 loss to the Rams. In his first career start, the rookie showed poise by leading a 71-yard touchdown drive to close out the first half. However, New Orleans struggled to sustain offense throughout the game, finishing with just 16:07 in time of possession compared to Los Angeles' 43:53.
Shough appeared to build chemistry with receiver Rashid Shaheed, targeting him nine times, though the speedy wideout was traded to the Seattle Seahawks on trade deadline day. With Shaheed gone, Chris Olave should see an even larger target share moving forward. Next up for Shough and the Saints is a road matchup with a Panthers defense allowing 205.8 passing yards per game, ranking 15th in the league. Shough remains off the fantasy radar for now.
