Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 9:
Stefon Diggs, WR, New England Patriots
New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been a steady contributor in fantasy football this season. Through eight games, he's averaging 11.9 fantasy points (full-PPR) while ranking as the overall WR26.
He has posted double-digit points in four of his last five games, and he salvaged last week's fantasy outing with his first touchdown of the season. While Kayshon Boutte has been a big-play threat in New England, Diggs has been more of a reliable, short-to-medium passing option for Drake Maye.
The 31-year-old is listed first on the depth chart of a 6-2 team whose offense is firing on all cylinders. That's always a good sign. Despite the Falcons allowing the third-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers in 2025, Diggs should be deployed as a low-end WR2.
Jameson Williams, WR, Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams has been one of the more disappointing players in fantasy so far this season, recording 17 catches for 289 yards and two touchdowns on 30 targets across seven games. In his final outing before Detroit's Week 8 bye, the 24-year-old was held without a catch on two targets by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Coming out of the bye week, Lions offensive coordinator John Morton told reporters he's looking to get Williams more involved in the team's offense. That may be difficult to do in Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings, who have allowed the fourth-fewest passing yards (1,428) in the NFL through eight weeks.
Williams was held in check by Minnesota across two games in 2024, recording seven catches for 30 yards on nine targets. He profiles as a low-end, boom/bust WR3/flex option for fantasy managers in Week 9.
Chris Olave, WR, New Orleans Saints
The Athletic's Diana Russini reports that the New Orleans Saints are expected to retain top wide receiver Chris Olave through the NFL's November 4 trade deadline. Olave has one more year on his current contract with New Orleans following 2025.
The 25-year-old is having a solid season so far, recording 52 catches for 503 yards and three touchdowns on 83 targets. Olave has been one of the league's most consistent target-earners, recording double-digit targets in six out of eight games.
Olave remaining in New Orleans might be the best thing for fantasy managers, as his target volume would almost certainly go down if he were moved to a contender. He profiles as a fantasy WR2 heading into the Saints' Week 9 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
Tony Pollard, RB, Tennessee Titans
Running back Tony Pollard is one of the players the Tennessee Titans are "fielding the most calls on" ahead of the NFL's November 4 trade deadline, according to Diana Russini of The Athletic. Pollard has recorded 555 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on 127 touches across eight games for the 1-7 Titans so far this season.
Tennessee has a younger and cheaper running back option behind Pollard in Tyjae Spears, so it may make sense for the rebuilding Titans to try to maximize Pollard's value. Depending on where he gets moved, a trade could significantly boost Pollard's fantasy value.
He's been losing touches to Spears in recent weeks, and the Titans' anemic offense limits the scoring opportunities for both running backs. If Pollard gets traded, Spears would become the unquestioned lead back in Tennessee. Currently, both players profile as high-end flex options heading into their Week 9 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Chuba Hubbard, RB, Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard may not be worth consideration for fantasy lineups in Week 9 against the Packers, unless you are in a desperate situation. Since returning in Week 7 from a calf injury, Hubbard has totaled just 65 rushing yards and 8.5 PPR fantasy points. During that span, the running game workload was split between Hubbard and Rico Dowdle, and Hubbard took the most snaps (57%).
Dowdle was the more efficient runner, though, outrushing Hubbard 133 to 65 yards. Earlier in the week, head coach Dave Canales said that Dowdle would be the team's starting RB in Week 9 and get the bulk of carries. Although Hubbard will contribute to the running game, his reduction in touches severely lowers his fantasy outlook, especially against a Packers run defense that allowed 13.9 points to RBs in the last two weeks, which was fifth-best in the league during that period.
For now, Hubbard should be left on the bench for Week 9 against Green Bay. Be sure to monitor any trade rumors involving him heading up to the trade deadline. A move to another team could instantly revive his fantasy appeal, so don't cut Hubbard yet.
