Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 9:
Kareem Hunt, RB, Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt has been productive while working in a backfield committee this season, recording 302 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns on 70 touches across eight games. With fellow Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco (knee) considered week-to-week after suffering an MCL sprain in Week 8, Hunt could play a true lead-back role in Week 9 against the Buffalo Bills.
The Chiefs have their bye in Week 10, so Hunt may be looking at a short-term workload bump. Additionally, Chiefs rookie running back Brashard Smith will also continue to play a role, especially in the passing game. Still, if Pacheco is sidelined against Buffalo, Hunt is a solid bet for double-digit touches and should dominate snaps around the goal line.
Travis Etienne Jr., RB, Jaguars
Following an excellent start to the 2025 season, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. has cooled off as the team heads into its Week 8 bye. The fifth-year back is the No. 16 overall PPR running back, but has now recorded fewer than 50 yards rushing and no touchdowns in three straight games for the Jags, who were thoroughly quieted by the Los Angeles Rams in a 35-7 loss last week.
Etienne drew only eight carries and one catch, his fewest number of touches in a game this season. The Jags traded Tank Bigsby to Philadelphia earlier this year, and rookie Bhayshul Tuten has yet to play more than a third of the team's snaps in a game, so Etienne is still the clear top option, but managers should continue to watch his usage in the weeks to come. Jacksonville travels to Las Vegas in Week 9.
Tyjae Spears, RB, Titans
Tennessee Titans running back Tyjae Spears is beginning to carve out a larger role in the offense. After missing the first four games with a high-ankle sprain, Spears has impressed since returning, averaging 5.5 yards per carry on 23 attempts. Offensive Coordinator Nick Holz praised his Week 8 performance, calling it "a good reminder of what he can do with the ball in his hands."
With Tony Pollard at the center of trade rumors, Spears could see a noticeable uptick in touches moving forward. While Tennessee's upcoming schedule is challenging, Spears' explosiveness and versatility as a pass-catcher give him the upside to be a potential league-winner down the stretch.
Bam Knight, RB, Cardinals
Arizona Cardinals running back Bam Knight appears to have a clear runway to be his team's lead back in a favorable Week 9 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. Cardinals running back Trey Benson (knee) will be on Injured Reserve for at least one more game, and the team released veteran back Michael Carter earlier this week.
Before Arizona's Week 8 bye, Knight had recorded 118 scrimmage yards and a touchdown on 29 touches across his last two games. He'll likely split backfield snaps to some degree with Emari Demercado in Week 9, but Knight profiles as the early-down and goal-line back. The Cowboys have allowed the third-most rushing yards (1,168) in the NFL this season. Knight should be viewed as a low-end fantasy RB2 heading into Week 9.
