Is Joe Mixon Out for the 2025 Season?
While the Texans have yet to rule Mixon out for the remainder of the campaign officially, the veteran running back is trending in the wrong direction. Last week, Texans GM Nick Caserio noted that Mixon's availability for the remainder of the campaign has not been determined. However, the team hopes to have more clarity on that in the coming three to four weeks.
Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, but since the team may not receive an update on Mixon until Week 10 at the earliest, he will face an uphill battle to return to action this season.

Joe Mixon 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook
Given his unknown timeline that continues to be pushed back, Mixon's fantasy value continues to drop. Entering Week 7, managers should only look to stash Mixon in 12+ teams of the market. Managers in shallower leagues or formats that do not have IR spots should not consider stashing Mixon, as he may not even return this season.
In his absence, the veteran Nick Chubb has begun to carve out the starting role with rookie Woody Marks operating as the No. 2 option. While the Texans were off in Week 6, both running backs have begun to find their stride. In Week 5, Chubb led the way, totaling 61 yards and a score on just 11 attempts during the victory over the Ravens.
However, in Week 4, the Texans leaned on the rookie who punched in two scores and totaled 69 yards on the ground and 50 through the air.
Given their recent success on the ground, Mixon may have had difficulty returning to his workhorse role if he were to return late in the campaign. As a result, Mixon is only worth starting in deeper leagues in an IR spot. If Chubb and Marks continue to perform, do not expect the Texans to lean on Mixon if he were to turn the corner in time for the strength run.
