Week 3 was strange in the NFL. We watched a lot of fantasy players completely flop in their respective games. Blowouts were common in Week 3, which kept many fantasy scores down. However, if you had players on teams that were actively blowing out the competition, you likely came away from this week a happy person.

Each week in the NFL is unique. You never know what is going to cause a team to show up or not. When the NFL is as unpredictable as it has been this season, it becomes extremely difficult to predict fantasy football outlooks. Luckily, now that we have three weeks of football under our belts, the predictability is starting to get easier.

Once we get through Week 4, we will have a month of game data to use for the rest of the season. NFL teams are finding themselves now, and the truth of each team is starting to rear its head. With several juicy-looking matchups on the docket this week, let's dive in and see who could explode and who could have a tougher week.

Quarterback Matchups We Love

Jordan Love - Green Bay Packers
Opponent: at DAL
Opponent Rank vs. QB: 32nd

Jordan Love had a rough outing in Week 3 against the Browns. The Packers struggled to get anything going on offense against a Browns defense that may turn out to be a pretty good unit by year's end. That should be wildly different in Week 4.

The Cowboys have allowed Jalen Hurts, Russell Wilson, and Caleb Williams to all have elite weeks as fantasy quarterbacks. The latter two players are not exactly weekly fantasy starters. Love should enjoy the same success with his combination of weapons and offensive line. Sit back and enjoy the show.

Geno Smith - Las Vegas Raiders
Opponent: CHI
Opponent Rank vs. QB: 30th

Geno Smith has quietly been a solid fantasy quarterback this season. In the right matchup, he should continue to produce. The Raiders have enough weapons to merit supporting Smith's case as a fantasy QB1 in any given week. Additionally, the Raiders defense has struggled this year, which has required the team to air the ball out.

The Bears have not been the best at stopping the pass in 2025. If the Bears offense can continue with its newfound momentum, it will force the Raiders to play from behind. If you need a quarterback start due to injuries or poor play, Smith is a solid option.

Quarterback Matchup to Temper Expectations

Dak Prescott - Dallas Cowboys
Opponent: GB
2024 Opponent Rank vs. QB: 1st

Dak Prescott was a favorite player during the draft season among many fantasy managers who wanted to wait on a quarterback. With the Cowboys' poor defense and the plethora of weapons around Prescott, he was in a great position to produce for fantasy. That has all changed with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb going down due to an ankle injury.

Prescott will draw an extremely tough matchup with the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. His old buddy, edge-rusher Micah Parsons, will be on Prescott's case all day. Without Lamb, the Packers should have no issues shutting down the Cowboys offense. Prescott is borderline droppable at this point.

Running Back Matchups We Love

J.K. Dobbins - Denver Broncos
Opponent: CIN
Opponent Rank vs. RB: 31st

J.K. Dobbins continues to defy the injury gods and looks great on an NFL field. He was explosive during the second half of the Broncos' Week 3 loss to the Chargers. Now, Dobbins will draw a layup of a matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4.

The Bengals defense just about resembles Swiss cheese as closely as one could. It seems to part the seas for any opposing running back to run through. Dobbins is clearly the No. 1 running back in Denver, and he should remain so against such a terrible defense. Dobbins has RB2 upside in Week 4.

Breece Hall - New York Jets
Opponent: at MIA
Opponent Rank vs. RB: 24th

After a solid Week 1, Breece Hall has delivered a couple of quiet weeks for fantasy. That should end in Week 4 against a Dolphins team that has been unable to stop anyone on opposing offenses. The Jets have proven capable of putting points on the board. As such, Hall has a great chance to score his first touchdown of the season this week.

Hall is receiving great volume in the passing game, but in a game that should be more of a neutral game script for the Jets, Hall should also receive plenty of volume as a runner. Start Hall as an RB2 this week.

Running Back Matchup to Temper Expectations

Jonathan Taylor - Indianapolis Colts
Opponent: at LAR
Opponent Rank vs. RB: 1st

Ok, so you're not going to sit Jonathan Taylor this week, but it may be prudent to adjust the rest of your lineup for more upside with Taylor's matchup in mind. The Colts are going to face their toughest test of the season in Week 4 when they visit the Rams' elite defense. The Colts' offense has been elite this year, but this could be the first time we see it stagger.

The Rams are fresh off a game in which they shut down Saquon Barkley. Taylor should receive plenty of volume and passing game work on Sunday. However, Taylor's scoring opportunities could be scarce. On the flip side, if Taylor has a great game in Week 4, we may need to anoint him as a completely matchup-proof player for the rest of the season.

Wide Receiver Matchups We Love

Tyquan Thornton - Kansas City Chiefs
Opponent: BAL
Opponent Rank vs. WR: 21st

Don't look now, but Tyquan Thornton has scored in two straight games. He has emerged as a legitimate deep threat for the Chiefs. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has repeatedly looked Thornton's way, and their rapport is building.

Baltimore has had all kinds of defensive troubles this season. The Chiefs are due for an offensive explosion, and Week 4 could be it. Although wide receiver Xavier Worthy is expected back for the Chiefs this week, Thornton will remain an important piece of the offense until Rashee Rice returns from suspension. Thornton is a solid plug-and-play in Week 4.

Ricky Pearsall - San Francisco 49ers
Opponent: JAX
Opponent Rank vs. WR: 27th

Ricky Pearsall is entering a juicy matchup against the Jaguars. With quarterback Brock Purdy likely to reenter the starting lineup for the 49ers this week, Pearsall will see an upgrade in his targets.

Pearsall is quietly breaking out this year. He has played at least 84% of the snaps in each game, and he has two games with at least 108 receiving yards. If the touchdowns begin to break Pearsall's way, he will fully crack into the WR2 ranks. Start Pearsall with confidence in Week 4.

Wide Receiver Matchup to Temper Expectations

Marvin Harrison Jr. - Arizona Cardinals
Opponent: SEA
Opponent Rank vs. WR: 2nd

After opening the season with a solid performance, Marvin Harrison Jr. has been anything but since then. Harrison has looked dejected and distracted at times this season. Not to mention, he has almost no chemistry with quarterback Kyler Murray. None of that is likely to change in Week 4.

The Seahawks have one of the best defenses in the league. They are likely to frustrate Harrison all day. If you had not already made the decision to sit Harrison until he proves worthy of being in starting lineups, this is the week to start. He will have good games in 2025, but they will likely only come in great matchups.

Tight End Matchup We Love

T.J. Hockenson - Minnesota Vikings
Opponent: at PIT

T.J. Hockenson established quick chemistry with backup quarterback Carson Wentz. Despite a lack of need for passing throughout most of Week 3's blowout over the Bengals, Hockenson secured five receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown.

Pittsburgh has had difficulty stopping tight ends all season. It just got lit up by New England's Hunter Henry, and it allowed a touchdown to Seattle's AJ Barner in Week 2. This should be a solid matchup between two solid teams, and Hockenson has a chance to take advantage of Wentz's presence under center for the time being.

Tight End Matchup to Temper Expectations

Mark Andrews - Baltimore Ravens
Opponent: at KC
Opponent Rank vs. TE: 3rd

Mark Andrews finally showed himself in Week 3. Andrews went for 91 yards and two touchdowns during Monday night's loss to the Lions. That could change in Week 4 with a tough matchup against a talented Chiefs linebacking corps. Additionally, fellow tight end Isaiah Likely could return this week.

Andrews is going to be difficult to project all season. He is as good a bet as anyone to score a touchdown. However, he feels equally as likely to record one reception.
