Is Jauan Jennings playing Week 2? Fantasy football injury update and outlook for Week 2 of 2025. Read the latest Jauan Jennings injury report and news.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings (shoulder) had a "breakout" campaign, of sorts, in 2024. In what was his fourth season in the NFL, Jennings recorded career-highs in targets (77), receptions (113), yards (975), and touchdowns (6).
Jennings biggest game was easily in Week 3, when he scored 46.5 PPR fantasy points by catching 11 of his 12 targets for 175 yards and three touchdowns against the hapless Los Angeles Rams. While performances like that aren't often repeated, except by the league's most elite receivers, it was notable.
In Week 1 of 2025, Jennings was targeted five times, catching just two passes for 16 yards, before he was knocked out of the game with a shoulder injury. So will Jennings be able to play in Week 2? What's his fantasy football outlook for his second game of 2025? Let's dive in.

Is Jauan Jennings Playing in Week 2?
Jennings was feared to have suffered a significant injury previously. However, he underwent scans of his injured shoulder that came back clean, and he's now not expected to miss much time, if any. He was officially listed as "Questionable" on his team's injury report for Week 2.
We don't have confirmation yet on whether he'll be able to play. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is notorious for being highly unreliable when it comes to injury information about his players. The injury situation with running back Christian McCaffrey (calf) from last season is testament to that.

You can see the play in which Jennings' injury occurred in the above video. It's difficult to comment further on the situation. We'll just have to wait and see. You'll at least know 90 minutes before 1:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, when the final list of inactive players is required to be submitted by all NFL teams playing in games at 1:00 PM EST.
Jauan Jennings Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook
The 49ers were a team significantly impacted by injury issues heading into Week 1. Their offense is now, yet again, decimated by injuries. Most notably, tight end George Kittle (hamstring) is on injured reserve and staring quarterback Brock Purdy (toe/shoulder) has been ruled out for Week 2.
While Jennings will face less target competition with Purdy out, he'll likely still be dealing with the effects of his newest injury, and will be catching passes from backup quarterback Mac Jones. It's unclear whether the totality of the injury situations will be a boost or a detriment to Jennings' upside.

Jennings' lack of raw athleticism makes it difficult for him to consistently get vertical separation. He's won on deep routes, but he's much better at beating zone coverages and separating from defenders on horizontally-breaking routes. It's notable that he was out-targeted by both running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall in Week 1.
CMC was the most targeted pass-catcher, and he's not even a wide receiver or tight end. It's clear that the 49ers offense views him as the top priority in the passing game with Kittle out. Jennings is third on this list, and that doesn't present a lot of fantasy upside, especially with Purdy on the sidelines.
Yeah, Ricky Pearsall is going to be a weapon. pic.twitter.com/W5HQw4AQrs

Pearsall is much more athletic than Jennings. The second-year pro ran a 4.41-second 40-yard dash and was targeted on deeper routes, which obviously tend to generate better fantasy production. And McCaffrey should continue to be a target-earning monster, as he's able to present a reliable safety valve that backup quarterbacks love.
It's hard to say what will happen, as Jennings has had huge games in the past, but I'd be more comfortable leaving him on the bench for better players.
