ANALYSIS: Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III has typically been given the majority of attempts, while Zach Charbonnet typically operated as the clear No. 2. However, in their Week 1 contest against the San Francisco 49ers, Walker saw his opportunities decline significantly.
In this game, the Michigan State product took 10 carries and saw three targets, while Charbonnet saw 12 attempts. Walker ran for just 20 yards on those attempts and added a mere four yards through the air. Charbonnet was able to find the back of the end zone. Overall, Walker logged 40% of the team's snaps while Charbonnet saw just under 60%.
Despite this split, managers should not be overly concerned with Walker. Leading up to this game, Walker was dealing with a foot injury and could have seen his workload limited as a result. In addition, when fully healthy, Walker has been given a substantial role in the backfield and has carried RB2 upside in most weeks.
While Charbonnet could have a larger role going forward, managers should expect a more effective day out of Walker as he averaged 4.2 YPC over his first three seasons.
In Week 2, the Seahawks will face the Steelers, who allowed the seventh-most PPR points to RBs last week. While his upside will be limited, he should see double-digit attempts and has a prime matchup to produce high-end RB3 value.
