ANALYSIS: Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco had an impressive start to the 2024 season and appeared to be on the verge of a breakout season. During Week 1, Pacheco racked up 45 yards and a score on the ground and added 33 through the air against the Ravens. In Week 2, Pacheco totaled over 100 combined yards.
However, in the second half of this game, Pacheco suffered a fractured fibula, which kept him sidelined through Week 13. When he did return, the running back lacked the same burst he once had and was losing much of his workload to veteran Kareem Hunt.
However, with a healthy offseason, Pacheco should be primed to return to his pre-injury form. During training camp, Pacheco consistently saw opportunities with the first team while Hunt slid in as the No. 2 option. The Chiefs also added rookie Brashard Smith on Day 3 of the NFL Draft. While he could eventually earn a role, he is unlikely to take on any of Pacheco's opportunities early on.
Given his expected role as the lead running back in a high-potent Kansas City offense, Pacheco should be viewed as a solid RB2 in all formats, despite facing a tough Los Angeles Chargers defense on Friday evening.
