Recent Fantasy Football Running Back News

Bhayshul Tuten, Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten got "a lot of run" with quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the first-string offense during Monday's practice, according to ESPN Radio's Mia O'Brien. O'Brien also reports that head coach Liam Coen was "very complimentary" of the 23-year-old's running in their preseason loss to the Steelers. Tuten was the third (and final) Jaguars running back to receive a touch in that one, but tied backfield mate Tank Bigsby for the team lead in carries (six), yards (24), and scored their lone rushing touchdown.

By the looks of it, Travis Etienne Jr. is still the top dog here, with Tuten and Bigsby vying for touches behind him. However, Bigsby outproduced Etienne Jr. in 2024, and this room feels more open for the taking than initially anticipated. Jacksonville's final two preseason games should shed some more light on how this backfield will operate come the regular season.

Javonte Williams, Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys running back Javonte Williams "continues to see the most reps with the starters" among the team's backfield candidates, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. With Miles Sanders (knee) and Jaydon Blue (ankle/heel) both dealing with injuries, Williams may be a lock to open the season as the lead running back in Dallas. In 17 games for the Denver Broncos last season, Williams rushed for 513 yards and four touchdowns on 139 carries. He profiles as a mid-tier RB4 in fantasy whose upside lies in the potential volume of available touches in the Cowboys' backfield.

Rachaad White, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said Monday that running back Rachaad White (hamstring) is "day-to-day," according to Pewter Report. The third-year back figures to be a key part of the Bucs' offense when healthy, but the club surely will be cautious with nearly a month to spare before Week 1 games. Managers should keep an eye on the situation, as the prospect of a lingering injury will surely impact draft-day values for both White and backfield mate Bucky Irving.

Jaylen Wright, Miami Dolphins

Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright carried the ball nine times for 16 yards and a touchdown while not getting targeted in the passing game in a 24-24 tie with the Chicago Bears in preseason action on Sunday. Wright mixed in with the first team on the Dolphins' first drive as he rotated with De'Von Achane early in the game. He appears ticketed for the short-yardage and goal-line work for Miami as he saw three straight carries from inside the five-yard line on the team's first drive of the game and later punched in a seven-yard score in the second quarter.

Wright is battling to be the team's RB2 behind Achane after a quiet rookie season in 2024, a role that would give him plenty of fantasy value as a handcuff later in drafts. He will get his next chance to make an impression on Saturday in the Dolphins' second preseason game against the Detroit Lions.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Washington Commanders

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said he's "encouraged by what I've seen so far" from rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic. Jhabvala writes that the organization believes Croskey-Merritt has "the potential to be a special player." A seventh-round pick out of Arizona, Croskey-Merritt played in just one game in his final college season due to an eligibility dispute with the NCAA. He's earned glowing reports for his work in training camp so far.

Washington has established veterans in Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler atop their running back depth chart, so Croskey-Merritt is fighting with Jeremy McNichols and Chris Rodriguez Jr. for a depth role. He would likely need at least one of his teammates to get injured to be fantasy relevant in 2025, but Croskey-Merritt is a name to keep an eye on throughout the remainder of the preseason.
