Tyler Lockett 2025 NFL Player Outlook: Veteran Slot Receiver Is Undervalued As Potential Safety Blanket for Rookie Quarterback
Tyler Lockett signed a one-year deal in free agency worth up to $4 million. While his glory days of catching three touchdown passes from Russell Wilson against the Arizona Cardinals on numerous occasions are certainly behind him, he can still be a sporadic flex option as the Titans' number two receiver behind Calvin Ridley. He should have no problem beating out draft bust Treylon Burks and veteran journeyman Van Jefferson for that role and earning the second-most targets in head coach Brian Callahan's offense. All signs point to first-overall pick Cam Ward starting at quarterback, and Lockett is the perfect player to step up as his safety blanket. Despite turning 33 years old early into the season, he is still a savvy route runner with an elite football IQ who knows how to find the weak spots in the defense to set up easy completions for his quarterback. He likely won't make many explosive plays, but his reliable hands and impressive situational awareness will routinely help the Titans move the chains. The good thing about Lockett is that if fantasy managers are intrigued by his potential role in the slot, he can be drafted with the last pick in the draft. His current ADP of WR112 reflects the simple fact that he is a boring pick and fantasy managers are looking for explosive upside not aging veterans. However, they would be wise to keep Lockett's name in the back of their mind as he might just be the player they need to give them 10 PPR points in a must-win matchup during the bye weeks. His ADP should be more in the range of WR70-80 along with the likes of DeAndre Hopkins, Michael Wilson, or Darius Slayton, all of which Lockett could easily out target.
