Vinnie Pasquantino Blasts Eighth Homer
Vinnie Pasquantino went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a single in Monday's 3-1 win against the San Francisco Giants. The Virginia native broke a scoreless tie in the top of the eighth inning, driving a Tyler Rogers second-pitch slider 399 feet over the right-field wall. Pasquantino has a hit in four straight contests, and has been much better of late, with a .292 average in 72 May at-bats. It's a massive turnaround from the dismal performance he exhibited in April (.172), and the recent stretch has brought his batting average up to .228, to go along with eight home runs, five doubles, 28 RBI, and 17 runs scored. It's nice to see him starting to heat up, but his strikeout rate is inflated quite a bit from his career normal (18.7%), and his walk percentage has declined for a third straight season (5.6%).
