Demario Douglas fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks for Week 1 (2024). Should you start or sit Demario Douglas for fantasy football lineups?
BALLER MOVE: Sit In All Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: WR5
ANALYSIS: Demario Douglas showed some potential in the Patriots' offense last year. However, there were also several games where he failed to produce despite being the top healthy target. Now, the Patriots have made a change at quarterback and also added plenty of other names to the receiving corps.
Jacoby Brissett is a fine passer at best, and he's going to have very little time to throw the ball behind a porous offensive line. This will presumably lead to lots of incomplete passes or very short gains. DraftKings also projects that Brissett won't throw a touchdown pass against the Bengals, meaning Douglas' production could be limited to a couple of short catches and zero trips to the end zone.

We also can't ignore the offseason additions that the Patriots made, including K.J. Osborn and Ja'Lynn Polk. These players will command targets, too, meaning there are even fewer targets available for players like Douglas.
Perhaps the biggest factor working in Douglas' favor is the projected negative game script. If the Patriots are playing from behind, they'll have to pass more often. Even then, we can't trust this offense to support a fantasy-relevant receiver yet. Douglas can be left on the bench in most leagues for Week 1.
