George Klassen is a fantasy baseball prospect sleeper and minor leaguer to know for Week 12 (2024). Read MLB prospects outlooks for fantasy baseball rookies, call-ups.
PROSPECT: George Klassen, SP, Philadelphia Phillies
CURRENT LEVEL: High-A
2024 STATS (Single-A): 9 G, 9 GS, 38 IP, 2-1, 0.71 ERA, 2.15 xFIP, 39.6% K%, 8.3% BB%, 0.24 HR/9
ANALYSIS: Drafted by the Phillies out of the University of Minnesota in the sixth round of the 2023 MLB Draft, right-hander George Klassen has been nothing short of brilliant to begin his professional career. He made quick work of Single-A hitters this season, yielding only a .160 opponents' batting average including only a single homer allowed in his 38 innings. He struck out 57 of the 144 batters he faced and posted a hearty 31.3% K-BB% in the process.

Armed with a fastball that can touch triple digits, the biggest area of concern with Klassen is his control as he also mixes in a curveball and a slider to go along with his electric fastball. The fear is that Klassen could end up as a reliever in the long term if he can't reign in his control but there are certainly some tools to work with considering his elite strikeout numbers early in his pro career.
He's not yet an elite prospect, it will likely be a slow burn to the big leagues as Klassen builds up after a shortened College career due to Tommy John surgery.
