Christopher Morel Injures His Foot Against White Sox
Chicago Cubs third baseman Christopher Morel (foot) was removed from Wednesday's game against the visiting Chicago White Sox in the seventh inning after fouling a pitch off his left foot. Morel stayed in the game long enough to draw a walk to put two runners on with two outs in a tie game that the Cubbies eventually won in walk-off fashion. Before leaving the game early, Morel went 1-for-3 with a run scored, a walk and a strikeout. Patrick Wisdom pinch-ran for Morel after he reached base and could be thrust into a regular role at the hot corner in Chicago if Morel's foot injury causes him to go on the injured list. The streaky Morel had gone 5-for-16 with two home runs and three RBI in his last five games heading into Wednesday's game to get him just over the Mendoza Line at .201 (42-for-209) on the year. The 24-year-old power hitter has added 11 homers, 37 RBI and five steals. UPDATE: Manager Craig Counsell said he thinks Morel will be fine, and he doesn't need X-rays or any imaging.
