Shane Baz is a fantasy baseball waiver wire stash for Week 9 (2024). Target Shane Baz as a top prospect free-agent waiver wire pickup for fantasy baseball.
BALLER MOVE: Stash in Standard Leagues (26% rostered)
CALL-UP ETA: Early June
ANALYSIS: Everyone is anxious to see Shane Baz back on the mound in the major leagues. The right-hander was dazzling in three MLB starts in 2021 and flashed some nice strikeout upside in 2022 despite giving up some long balls and compiling a 5.00 ERA.
Baz missed all of last season after having Tommy John surgery and has had a few small setbacks with oblique injuries as well. Baz is finally making some rehab starts at Triple-A Durham and has had mixed results so far.
Shane Baz tossed another rehab start today, going 3.1 IP with 1 ER, 5 H, 3 K, 2 BB
Baz threw 69 pitches today as he continues his path to the Rays rotation. His velocity and pitch grades understandably remain down from prior to TJS. Glad to see him making progress! pic.twitter.com/9qrFDCrQKe

Baz has made three rehab starts but has thrown just eight innings in total, walking eight and striking out four with a 7.88 ERA. The lack of control is concerning, considering that solid control was one of Baz's strengths before his injury. While Tampa would love to plug him into the rotation as soon as possible, it's likely that he's going to need at least two more rehab starts to get stretched out and regain control of his arsenal.
He has the talent and track record to be a productive MLB starter, so stash him where you can and hope that he can return to his pre-injury form when the Rays finally activate him.

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ team leagues CALL-UP ETA: July ANALYSIS: Unlike many players currently in the minor leagues, Chandler Simpson has proven he can be a valuable fantasy player at the MLB level. In his time in the majors, he hit .285 with 19 stolen bases in 35 games. Unfortunately, being a valuable fantasy player […]

Brady House - Fantasy Baseball Prospects Waiver Wire Stashes (Week 12)
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12-team leagues CALL-UP ETA: June ANALYSIS: The Nationals went viral on social media this week for making a fun call-up. They called up their bat dog from Triple-A. While this was very cute and should improve the vibes a little bit in Washington, I don't think Bruce the Bat Dog will help […]

Samuel Basallo - Fantasy Baseball Prospects Waiver Wire Stashes (Week 12)
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12-team leagues CALL-UP ETA: June ANALYSIS: Samuel Basallo might be the best hitter in the minors right now, and he has catcher eligibility. What more do you need to know (I know catcher is super deep this year, but still)? Basallo has been an age-to-level monster for the majority of his pro […]

Andrew Painter - Fantasy Baseball Prospects Waiver Wire Stashes (Week 12)
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12-team leagues CALL-UP ETA: June ANALYSIS: Painter's last two starts don't give a ton of confidence that he is ready to be in the majors. It may not even be before the All-Star break before we see him, but that does not mean we are in stash territory. The good news is, […]

Colby Thomas - Fantasy Baseball Prospects Waiver Wire Stashes (Week 12)
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ team leagues CALL-UP ETA: July ANALYSIS: The A's continue to lose, and Colby Thomas continues to hit homers in Triple-A. The A's just got swept by the Angels, bringing their record to 26-44. While plays like Denzel Clarke's HR robbery can generate a spark for a team, the A's might need […]
