If you're new or just need a refresher for those who read my articles last season, I'm Kipp Heisterman. In this article, I'll provide my favorite betting picks for the MLB games on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

Today's MLB Betting Picks - Marlins @ Cubs

O/U: 8  | Moneyline: Cubs  -170
MIA: Jesus Luzardo| CHC: Javier Assad
Game Time: 2:20 pm EDT

This should be a relatively solid pitching matchup between the Chicago Cubs' Javier Assad and Jesus Luzardo of the Marlins. That being said, it appears as though the Cubs will be on the right side of this matchup as Luzardo has once again fallen on tough times. He has posted an ERA north of seven to begin the season and has allowed 12 earned runs over his last 9 2/3 innings pitched.

The Cubs should be able to take advantage of this as they have posted a 152 wRC+ vs. left-handers over the previous two weeks, which ranks second-best in baseball. Once Luzardo is done, the Cubs should also be able to have their way with a Marlins' pen that has posted the third-worst ERA to begin the season with a mark of 5.62.

Javier Assad has also been no slouch as he has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his three starts this season. He will also be facing a Marlins' squad that has posted an 89 wRC+ vs. righties over the previous two weeks, ranking them 10th-worst in the league over that span. This is a great spot to bet the Cubs moneyline at -170.

Today's MLB Betting Picks - White Sox @ Phillies

O/U: 7.5 | Moneyline: Phillies -298
CWS: Michael Soroka| PHI: Zack Wheeler
Game Time: 6:05 pm EDT

While I will not do this too often in this article, today I am going to recommend a two-team moneyline parlay. Pairing the Phillies and Cubs here seems like a reasonable play. The Phillies will be at home, facing right-hander Michael Soroka, who has posted a 6.98 ERA across his first four starts. He has also allowed four earned runs or more in three of his first four starts. While he will be facing a Phillies offense that has posted just a 78 wRC+ mark vs. righties over the previous two weeks, they should be able to get to Soroka.

The Phillies also have the benefit of having ace Zack Wheeler on the mound. Wheeler has been solid thus far as he has posted a 3.00 ERA over his first four starts. The White Sox have also struggled mightily vs. right-handers to begin the season and have posted just a 58 wRC+ mark over the previous two weeks, ranking them dead last in the league.
