Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin qualified eighth for this week's Cook Out 400 at Martinsville Speedway. After the October 2023 Martinsville event, this will be Hamlin's second consecutive top-10 start at the site. The driver of the No. 11 is one of the best in the field at Martinsville with five wins, 25 top-10 finishes, and the most laps led of active drivers in 36 starts (2,382). Hamlin has also been incredibly dominant in recent MS races since he led over 100 laps in four of the last six Cup events there. Also, Hamlin is one of the top drivers of the year so far as one of only two drivers with two wins, both of which being scored at two short tracks (Bristol and Richmond). In practice, Hamlin had one of the fastest cars in the field and displayed great speed in the long run, particularly as he was among the Top 10 fastest in 20,25, and 30 consecutive lap averages. He also had the best overall lap average of all drivers in Group B during practice. Considering his practice results, performance at short tracks this year, Martinsville history, and equipment, do not be surprised to see Hamlin compete for the win.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller
