NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 11/28/23

We have finally made it! The 2023-2024 season is upon us and we welcome the next generational talent, Connor Bedard, to the front and center! With many big moves over the offseason -- Karlsson to Pittsburgh -- and many signings during free agency, this season will make for yet another interesting race to Lord Stanley!

Tonight, we have a nine-game slate and one team playing on a back-to-back, Winnipeg. The currently live top-three-highest implied team totals are: Vancouver with 4.1, Seattle with 3.8, and Minnesota with 3.7. I will do my best to guide you through this nine-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 PM EDT.

DISCLOSURE: Make sure to monitor the NHL news feeds for the latest player status and injury news.

DraftKings and FanDuel Goalies - NHL DFS Picks

Jake Oettinger - DK $7.8K || FD $8.1K

Opponent - Winnipeg Jets

There are a few viable options in net tonight, especially when looking at potential save volume alone. However, out of all of those options, Oettinger has some of the better odds to win his respective game. Over the season, the Jets are in the top ten in Shots For Per 60, but they are also in the top ten in Goals For Per 60 thanks to their recent production in their last ten games. Furthermore, in those ten games where the offense suddenly ‘clicked’, they played some of the softer goalie matchups in the league resulting in the expected outcome. However, they did get shut down by the Predators losing 3-2 in their last outing and now they play another stingy team in Dallas. In Oettinger’s last five performances, he is 2-2-1 with a 3.82 Goals Against and a 0.865 Save Percentage.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP):

  • Sorokin (DK $7.4K || FD $8.7K)
  • Hart (DK $7.2K || FD $7.6K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Centers - NHL DFS Picks

Brayden Point - DK $7.3K || FD $9.5K

Opponent - Arizona Coyotes

It is no secret that the Tampa Bay Lightning will garner high ownership tonight and for good reason. They are firing on all cylinders…literally and more specifically their top line. In Point’s last five games, he has 4 goals, 4 assists, 15 shots and 2 blocked shots. The hardest thing about Point is his shot volume. In some games, he shoots like a madman and in others, he is lucky to have a single shot. Nevertheless, he is playing Arizona who over the season are in the bottom ten in Shots Against, Scoring Chances Against, High Danger Chances Against and Goals Against – all per 60 –.

Nico Hischier - DK $5.2K || FD $4.7K

Opponent - New York Islanders

Despite Islanders projected starter, Ilya Sorokin making it into the article, the Devils will still get a feature. New Jersey is fully healthy or as close to it as they have been for a while and that means captain Nico Hischier is back. In his return from a month-long injury, he had 1 goal, 1 assist and 2 shots in a 7-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. Although the matchup was an easier one than the Islanders will be, Hischier and the second line will still have ample opportunities against one of the worst defensive lines in the league.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Tavares (DK $6.7K || FD $8K)
  • Gourde (DK $3.7K || FD $4.7K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Wings - NHL DFS Picks

Nikita Kucherov - DK $9K || FD $10.6K

Opponent - Arizona Coyotes

As the fourth-highest salaried player on the slate in any position, Kucherov deserves every bit of it. The winger is single-handedly carrying 75 percent of Tampa Bay’s offensive production. In his last five appearances, he has 4 goals, 8 assists, 26 shots and 1 blocked shot. That means he is averaging a Shot Bonus per game on DraftKings. That is unspeakable value, even at the top of the salary range and that does not account for the prime matchup he has in Arizona tonight. At this point it would be a shock for Kucherov to not hit double-digit fantasy points tonight – only missed four times so far this season –.

Andrei Svechnikov - DK $5.1K || FD $5K

Opponent - Philadelphia Flyers

Similar to the aforementioned Nikita Kucherov, Andrei Svechnikov is also a shooter at heart. However, he has not been nearly as consistent as the former. Although, the Hurricanes winger does have a 4-game point streak and assist streak. In his most recent five games, he has 1 goal, 4 assists, 16 shots and 2 blocked shots. As long as Svechnikov plays on the second line, his production will be muffled due to the inabilities of linemate Jesperi Kotkaniemi. However, the winger will remain the primary producer on the line. At this salary and the potential ceiling, this is an ‘easy’ play.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Nugent-Hopkins (DK $5.4K || FD $6.1K)
  • Mercer (DK $3.8K || FD $4.5K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Defensemen - NHL DFS Picks

Marcus Pettersson - DK $2.7K || FD $3.9K

Opponent - Nashville Predators

Pettersson is the biggest ‘lock’ in quite some time. Once again, it is no secret that the Penguins are struggling and it is their power-play in question. This has resulted in a few ideas being tossed around and the newest change sees Pettersson on the second power-play unit. This would have the defenseman playing in all situations for the Penguins. In what should be a closely fought game in Smashville, Pettersson is expected to smash value. In his last five games, he has 8 shots and 11 blocked shots.

Aaron Ekblad - DK $4.5K || FD $4.6K

Opponent - Pittsburgh Penguins

It is not always the smartest decision to play a player from a team playing on a back-to-back, however, tonight is another rematch with the Toronto Maple Leafs resulting in a back-and-forth game. As a strict peripheral play, Ekbald is expected to block a fair share of shots tonight at a minimum. In his last five appearances, he has 15 shots and 6 blocked shots.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Hedman (DK $5.4K || FD $6.6K)
  • Romanov (DK $3.3K || FD $3.7K)
