Former Cleveland Guardians catcher Cam Gallagher has elected to become a free agent after being designated for assignment last week by the team. The Guardians claimed Christian Bethancourt off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays last week and subsequently released Gallagher. The 30-year-old backstop slashed an ugly .126/.154/.168 with seven RBI across 143 at-bats (56 games) last season with Cleveland. He put together some solid seasons as Salvador Perez's backup in Kansas City prior to last year, however, so he should be able to sign on with another team before spring training in 2024.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller
