FanDuel PGA DFS Lineup Picks: 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge

We did okay in this article for the PGA Championship, with Cantlay, Lowry, Kirk, and Detry playing the weekend well. Jon Rahm made the cut too, but a T50 as one of the most expensive guys on the slate, was not ideal.  As we always do in this FanDuel DFS piece, we are going to use the Research Station table available to Premium subscribers of all levels to determine who has the metrics we are looking for at the revered Colonial Country Club. Join the RotoBaller squad today for access to this and a whole lot more tools, articles, and discord access.

In this article, we'll discuss some of the standout PGA DFS plays available on FanDuel. While it's impossible to hit on every player, we'll touch on some different plays across all price ranges, breaking the groups down into "High," "Mid," and "Low" price options that are worth considering.

Like always, the purpose of this piece is to help you put together your optimal daily fantasy golf lineups for FanDuel, whether that be from a GPP perspective or a cash-game mentality. Be sure to also read all of our other top-notch weekly PGA DFS and betting articles to help you win big!

FanDuel Strategy Nuances (PGA DFS)

Before we dive into the FanDuel plays for this week, we are going to be comparing the prices of golfers on the FD slate to that of the DraftKings slate in order to figure out some value for the respective golfers. We get an extra $10,000 ($60,000 salary limit in FanDuel) to spend on the same six guys, so there is an opportunity to build some really optimal lineups if we find the right guys. The average increase per player should be $1,666.67 ($10,000/6).

We have tons of great weekly PGA articles, DFS analysis, tools, and DFS advice. Be sure to read our other fantastic articles regarding this week's event, including DFS lineup picks for DraftKings/FanDuel, betting advice, DFS prop picks, and course previews.

Below is the difference in salary between the two DFS platforms using the downloadable research station that is part of our affordable Premium Package. It has event history, recent form, DFS scoring upside, and a whole lot more nerdy stuff. This week we are using Birdies or Better Gained to filter on golfers we are targeting.

High-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays

Scottie Scheffler ($12,000, $500 difference)

Now that we know who Scottie Scheffler is, those 87th and 55th finishing positions can be hoofed out the window, with the 2nd place in last year's event much more representative of what we have come to expect from the World No. 2, who has been World No. 1 a few times this year already. I would assume with a win here this week he would reclaim that throne and add to a track record that has seen no finish worse than 12th this year. Incredible form from the Texan who tees it up in his home state hoping to win the Tartan Plaid Jacket that Sam Burns stole from him in a playoff last year.

Justin Rose ($10,600, $1,300 difference)

He has a win, a third and a top-20 in three of his last five starts at Colonial CC. he also has rattled off a 9th, 25th, and 16th in his last three starts on tour. He grades out well for long term accuracy, and his recent cut making ability of 77% is appealing from a safety standpoint. Rose is also one of the best Bentgrass putters in the field and will be looking for his second Charles Schwab trophy and his second win of the year.

Brian Harman ($10,000, $1,800 difference)

Experiencing one of the steeper price increases across the two platforms, Harman has a bit of salt and pepper associated with his name this week. He has fantastic course history here, making the cut in all of his starts since 2015, before missing it last year as one of the chalkiest rostered golfers that I can remember. However, his recent form is not nearly what it was last year, so his ownership seems to have taken a ding as a result. We like him this year again.

Mid-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays

Mid-priced salary differences. Notice how much more red we see in that difference column in this range versus the high-priced range. Bear that in mind when deciding which players to play on either platform.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout ($9,700, $2,000 difference)

If I told you that for $9,700 you could get a guy who finished T15 here last year, is the best Bentgrass putter in the field, and over the last 24 rounds is the 5th best iron player behind Morikawa, Finau, Hovland, and Scheffler, would that interest you? That, my friends, is what you are getting from Christiaan Bezuidenhout. A rogue putting performance lost him 4 strokes at the PGA last week, missing the cut on the number. He is well rested and will be looking to improve on his T15 from last year with his surging iron play.

Emilliano Grillo ($9,500, $1,200)

He is starting to putt well again, having gained the 11th most strokes putting in this field over the last 24 rounds. Grillo also has a really solid track record here, with four top-25s in his last six starts. His ball striking on shorter golf courses is really impressive and he has rattled off some solid results prior to missing the cut at the PGA Championship.

Justin Suh ($9,000, $1,900)

Justin Suh boasts an 88% made cut rate for somebody well below the average salary you start with. His accuracy off the tee and incredible putting are two strengths he will lean on this week after an impressive T26 at the PGA Championship, that could have been much better had he played a little better on Sunday.

Low-Priced FanDuel DFS Players

The below golfers are all candidates to round out your player pool.

Andrew Novak ($7,500, $1,100 increase)

Andrew Novak is $500 away from min price and has made 75% of his cuts this year. His recent iron play sits inside the top 50 and his bogey avoidance rate of 29th compliments the scoring conditions we will experience this week. He plays medium difficulty courses better than 91 other golfers in the field and the best part of his game is how many good shots he hits on approach, gaining +0.5 on a single approach shot the 13 most in the field. A lot to like from this cheapie down the leaderboard.

Zach Johnson ($7,500, $1,300 increase)

His last appearances at the Charles Schwab have been 23rd, 32nd, and 43rd, with a few top 20s back in 2015 and 2016. The US Ryder Cup Captain will be looking to ride the momentum of making the cut at the PGA Championship last week and continue to make cuts at a 75% clip! His lack of distance will be replaced by hitting 63% of fairways, which will be key around Colonial CC. A lot to like at this price.

Rory Sabbatini ($7,000, $1,000)

His recent form can only be described as ... dire. However, at min price you are getting somebody who has played really well around this course in the past. His ball striking is typically what lets him down, which is slightly nullified here thanks to his impressive scrambling ability. His short game will make or break his week, but at $6,000 we are getting an ultra risky salary saver who hasnt missed a cut at this event in the last five years.
