Dylan Carlson Could Be Heading To Injured List

The St. Louis Cardinals are calling up outfielder Oscar Mercado from the minors for Wednesday's game, which would indicate that outfielder Dylan Carlson (ankle) is headed for a stint on the injured list. Carlson suffered a sprained left ankle on Sunday and isn't quite ready to return to action for the Red Birds. Giving the struggling 24-year-old some more time off probably won't hurt, as he's hitting only .230 (23-for-100) with four doubles, a triple, two home runs, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored in 108 plate appearances over 32 games played. He's been even worse in 12 games in May, going 8-for-41 (.195) with two home runs, seven RBI and nine strikeouts. Lars Nootbaar should start in center field for St. Louis with Carlson on the mend.
