BALLER MOVE: Draft target ~pick 290
CURRENT ADP: ~306 overall
ANALYSIS: Mitchell is a speedster with some pop that may endear himself to fantasy teams with a hot start. The Brewers could deploy an outfield rotation to start 2023 with Mitchell’s ability to handle center elevating his PT. Jesse Winker is a strong DH candidate but can handle the corners, with Brian Anderson and Keston Hiura also able to step in.
For now, Mitchell’s left-handed swing will get a chance to build on 2022’s small-sample success. In just 28 games (68 PAs), the 24-year-old hit .311 while going a perfect 8-for-8 on the basepaths. He tossed in two homers and three doubles but enjoyed a .548 BABIP to cover up a wild 41.2% strikeout rate. As I said, small sample!
His aggression in the box mirrors Milwaukee’s aggression in promoting their 2020 first-round pick. Between 2021 and ‘22 he only played in 79 Double-A games, then squeezed in 20 Triple-A contests last year before the big-league coffee. I’ll note his usual strikeout rate was around 25% at all levels. He also kept a groundball rate closer to 60%, which allowed his plus speed to play up. Let’s see if that shines through across a bigger sample in ‘23. If he gets 400 PAs then we could scoop a 10/20 campaign.
