Taylor Rogers 2023 Player Outlook: Potentially Low Save Totals In San Francisco
Taylor Rogers might struggle to log saves at the rate he did this past season. Rogers spent most of the 2022 season with the San Diego Padres before being dealt to the Milwaukee Brewers in the Josh Hader trade. Overall, Rogers pitched to a 4.76 ERA, a 3.31 FIP, 84 strikeouts, and 19 walks in 64.1 innings spanning 66 appearances. Most crucially for fantasy managers, the veteran logged 31 saves, while also registering four holds and four pitcher wins. Despite the save numbers and a FIP that suggested he was much better than his ERA would indicate, Rogers looks like he will have more value in saves+holds leagues this coming season as opposed to more standard-scoring fantasy leagues. That's in part due to Camilo Doval's emergence as San Francisco's primary closer last year. The Giants aren't hurting for ancillary save options either, with John Brebbia, Scott Alexander, and Taylor's twin brother Tyler Rogers on hand as late-inning options. If Doval struggles, Taylor Rogers could potentially find himself pitching in the ninth inning more often, but as of right now, he looks more like a handcuff option for fantasy managers.
