Las Vegas Raiders - NFL Betting Analysis

The Las Vegas Raiders will look to start the regular season off with a win, as they are coming off a 2021-2022 season in which they appeared in the post-season. However, their season ended with 26-19 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild Card. Las Vegas is coming off a season in which they finished 2nd in the AFC West on a record of 10-7.

Las Vegas comes into the game with the last year's 18th ranked scoring offense, at 22.0 points per game. This week, Las Vegas will face off against last year's 30th ranked scoring defense. In the 2021-2022 season, they scored an average of 21.14 points per game to teams that finished in the bottom third of the league in points allowed.

When looking back to last season, the Las Vegas Raiders struggled to get off to hot starts, ranking just 22nd in average first quarter scoring margin. The team led after the first quarter in 41.0% of last year's contests.

Heading into the game, quarterback Derek Carr enters his 9th year of his career. For the year, Carr started all 17 regular season games for the team. His overall passing yards of 4,804, placed him 5th among other NFL quarterbacks.

Having allowed an average of 25.8 points per game in the 2021-2022 season, the Raiders finished 26th in the NFL in overall points allowed. The unit only gave up 25.8 points or more in 8 of their games.

Los Angeles Chargers - NFL Betting Analysis

In the 2021-2022 season, the Los Angeles Chargers posted a regular season record of 9-8. Despite ending with an above .500 record, the team's 3rd place finish in the AFC West was not enough to make the playoffs.

Los Angeles finished the 2021-2022 regular season as the 5th ranked scoring offense at 27.9 points per game. Heading into the game, the Chargers will be looking for a big performance against last year's 26th ranked scoring defense. In 2021-2022, they averaged 29.0 points and 415.83 yards per game against the 10 worst scoring defenses in the league.

The Los Angeles Chargers come into the game looking to build on last year's offensive success by maintaining their ability to control the ball, ranking 9th in average time of possession per game. Los Angeles went on to win the time of possession battle in 42.0% of their matchups.

In week 1, Los Angeles starter Justin Herbert will be kicking off his 3rd Season season in the league. Last season, Herbert started all 17 games for Los Angeles. Overall, he finished 2nd in passing yards with a total of 5,014.

Los Angeles heads into the 2021-2022 season with some major work to do on the defensive side of the ball, as they gave up an average of 27.0 points per game, placing them 30th in the league. This week, Los Angeles will face off against last year's 18th-rated scoring offense. In the 2021-2022 season, they allowed an average of 29.33 points per game to teams that finished in the middle third of the league in scoring.

Today's NFL Betting Pick - Raiders vs. Chargers

Las Vegas comes into the game looking to continue their recent success over Los Angeles, as they have a record of 3-2 over the last 5 meetings. Combined, the teams have averaged 52.8 points per game in these games. The over-under record in this stretch was 3-2. In last year's matchups between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, each team won a game. The Raiders picked up a 35-32 victory, while the Chargers won by a score of 28-14.

Against the spread, the Raiders have gone 3-2 in these games. Las Vegas comes into the game having averaged 26.2 points per game vs Los Angeles (last 5). On the other side, the Chargers are at 26.6.

In terms of betting, Las Vegas finished the season with an ATS mark of 8-9. Like Las Vegas's overall record vs the spread, their road ATS mark of 4-4 was near the league average. In the 2021-2022 season, Las Vegas played 5 games in which they were more than a 3.5 point underdog, going 4-1 ATS. In these games, Las Vegas had a negative average scoring differential of -2.8 points.

Last season, the Chargers were a below .500 team against the spread, finishing just 8-9. Similar to their overall ATS record, betting Los Angeles at home provided mixed results as they covered at a rate of 44.0%. The Chargers inconsistent performance vs the spread came while being favored in 12 of their games.

Last season, the Raiders had an over-under record of 8-9. The Las Vegas Raiders accounted for less than half of the overall scoring in the 2021-2022 season at 46.0%. This trend includes games that surpassed the over-under betting line, where the Raiders were responsible for 47.0% of the points.

Last season, the Los Angeles Chargers had an over-under record of 10-6-1. When playing at home, Los Angeles finished the season averaging 30.67 points per game, a slight increase over their season average of 27.9.Overall, the team's defense gave up an average of 27.0 points per game, similar to their home figure of 26.11.

Recommended ATS Betting Pick: Chargers -3.5

Recommended OU Betting Pick: Over 52.0
