Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (7/14) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Monday, July 15th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on July 15th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Ryan Yarbrough. Not a starter. Eight wins. 4.26ERA inflated by two outings of 7ER. 3.49FIP. This is easy money. Only 5% owned is sad. ChiSox next.
  • Michael Brosseau w/fourth bomb. .395/.425/.816 slash in 34AB. .423BABIP?! Wow! What goes up….   Only 3% owned w/playing time and ton of value.
  • It takes longer for some players to get the effect of the Camden elixir. Austin Meadows w/13th HR.
  • Robinson Cano finding the rhythm. 2HR, .310AVG last week.
  • Bobby Bradley hitting .195. Not good. .294 over last week is encouraging.
  • Carlos Santana singing lullabies w/21st greatest hit of 2019. 86% owned?! Huh?
  • Brad Peacock w/setback. Josh James time?
  • Jesse Winker to IL? Wait and see. Side tightness.
  • Mike Trout to IL? Wait & see. Calf tightness.
  • J.T. Realmuto. Among cathers, he's ninth in HR(11). Second in WAR(2.9) (Yasmani Grandal - 3.2WAR)
  • Giovanny Urshela w/.302AVG, but what else? 1.0WAR
  • Ramon Laureano at the drive-thru window. “Combo meal, please.” (18HR/11SB)
  • Lorenzo Cain hitting .314 over the last week w/SB. Buy low. Or check your wire if you’re in that 15% of leagues.
  • Gotta pump the primer. Brandon Belt ready for Coors w/11th shotgun blast.
  • Paul Goldschmidt w/Monster Jam series. 416ft HR(17) off Zack Greinke (6IP, 5ER, 6K - not a good day)
  • Nicholas Castellanos trying to impress future club. Tied for MLB lead in doubles(31).
  • Jose Quintana wins third in a row. Keyword: run support. 6IP, 3ER, 2BB, 4K.
  • Yuli Gurriel is amused by the simplicity of this game. 11HR, 23RBI, .387AVG over the last 15 days. 21% of leagues don’t believe, I guess.
  • Justin Verlander gets 11th W. 6IP, 2ER, 7K. Goochland Pride!
  • Scooter Gennett doubles in return. 50% owned. If he’s past his injuries, could be very good value.
  • Jose Peraza is a part-time player. 1HR, 13RBI, 1SB, .312AVG in last month is not too shabby. Better than the start of the season.
  • Tyler Mahle might have lost a few followers after 4.1IP, 6ER, 2K.
  • Eloy Jimenez w/17th HR, .244AVG. Power is there but AVG hasn’t come around yet. I’ll wait.
  • Austin Nola getting a little spotlight himself. 2nd HR, .323AVG. Aaron and all of us LA people are proud.
  • Mike Soroka makes it look effortless. 7IP, 0ER, 9K for 10th W. Nats next.
  • Freddie Freeman & his 71RBI ranks fourth.
  • Hyun-Jin Ryu sweet as can be w/7IP, 2ER, 6K. Poor Marlins next.
  • A.J. Pollock does it again w/a .326ft pop-up….HR(four)
  • Have a great Monday. Sorry for the quickness. It's vacation time.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
