Will Doug Pederson Get Fired This Season? 2024 NFL Rumors

Trevor Lawrence - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Will the Jacksonville Jaguars fire head coach Doug Pederson this season? Read the NFL rumors about the Jaguars head coach.

The Jacksonville Jaguars sit just 1-5 on the season and are last in the AFC South. The team's poor performance has prompted questions about head coach Doug Pederson's future with the franchise.

Is Pederson going to be fired this year, though? What does the team's history suggest about whether it will fire a coach midseason?

The Case For Firing Doug Pederson

The Jaguars are currently in London for a pair of games. The team opened that series with a 35-16 loss to the Chicago Bears, dropping the team to just 1-5 on the year.

The team ranks 22nd in points for this year. It was 10th in Pederson's first year in 2022, then dropped a bit to 13th last season. 2024 has been a disaster on both sides of the ball, with the team ranked 31st in both yards and points allowed.

Something has to change for this Jaguars team at this point.

History Of Jaguars Coach Firings

Shad Khan has owned the Jaguars since the 2012 season. Mike Mularkey was hired as the head coach that season and the team went 2-14. Khan fired Mularkey after the season ended.

The Jaguars have made multiple midseason firings under Khan. Gus Bradley was fired during the 2016 season and was replaced by Doug Marrone.

More famously, Urban Meyer was hired in 2021, but was fired after 13 games and was replaced by Darrell Bevell.

Will The Jaguars Fire Doug Pederson?

Shad Khan is no stranger to firing a coach during the season, as two of his last three head coaches were fired during the campaign. He also let Mike Mularkey go after one year.

Pederson could certainly be fired this season. Another poor showing on Sunday after the Patriots in London could be the final straw for Pederson's time at the helm of the Jaguars.

At this point, I would be more surprised if Pederson is the coach at the end of the season than if he was fired in the near future.
