Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 4:
Caleb Williams, QB, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is off to a scorching start in his sophomore season. Williams is averaging 23.8 fantasy points per game, ranking as the QB3 behind only Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.
The arrival of head coach Ben Johnson has transformed the Bears' offense, and Williams is thriving in the system. Week 4 sets up as another strong spot. The Bears face the Las Vegas Raiders, who allowed the eighth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks in 2024. This year, they've already surrendered a 115+ QBR in back-to-back weeks, most recently getting lit up by Marcus Mariota and the Commanders for 41 points on offense.
With elite efficiency, rushing upside, and a favorable matchup, Williams is locked in as a high-end QB1 for Week 4. Expect his early-season dominance to continue in Las Vegas.
Marcus Mariota, QB, Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota will start again in place of Jayden Daniels in Week 4 against the Falcons after making his first start of the season last week against the Raiders. Mariota led his team to a 41-24 win against one of his former teams and now will look to do the same on the road against another one of his former teams.
He was super crisp in his first action since Week 18 of last season, completing 15 of 21 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown while running for 40 yards on six carries. It will be a tougher challenge this time as he will be missing star wide receiver Terry McLaurin (quad) and faces an Atlanta defense that has allowed the fourth-fewest fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season at 12.3.
Washington will likely follow a similar game plan to last week against Las Vegas, where they went very run-heavy, especially with multiple receivers out. He's not a recommended start in matchups this week.
Justin Fields, QB, New York Jets
New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields will make his return after a one-week absence for Monday's road matchup with the division-rival Miami Dolphins. Fields was knocked out of New York's 30-10 loss to the Bills with a concussion and missed the ensuing week while he cleared protocol.
The last time we saw the 26-year-old, he completed just 3-of-11 passes for 27 yards, fumbling twice (one lost). It was an outing to forget for Fields, but he'll get a chance to turn it around in Week 4 against a vulnerable Dolphins defense. Miami has been one of the worst teams in the league thus far, yielding the seventh-most yards per game (370.3) and the most points per contest (32.3).
Even if the Ohio State alum struggles again as a passer, his work on the ground should keep him in the conversation of a viable fantasy contributor. Fields is RotoBaller's fantasy QB10 for his meeting with Miami.
Drake Maye, QB, New England Patriots
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has performed well this season, but he'll face a tough test against the Carolina Panthers in Week 4. While Carolina isn't commonly viewed as a dominant team, their defense has been quite strong this year, especially against quarterbacks.
In full, the Panthers have allowed the third-most interceptions, the fewest passing touchdowns, and the fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks in 205. They have also allowed zero rushing touchdowns to the position, but on the flip side, they've registered just one sack. With all that being said, Maye himself has been solid, ranking as the overall QB7 so far while rushing for 87 yards.
He isn't immune to ugly football -- last week, he had two costly turnovers in a loss to the Steelers -- but for the most part, he has looked quite impressive while making massive strides in his second pro season. RotoBaller's experts aren't worried about Maye's tough matchup, ranking him as the overall QB6 heading into Sunday's Week 4 contest.
Daniel Jones, QB, Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones' performance has been a pleasant surprise over the first month of the season.
Jones has led one of the top offenses in the league thus far, throwing for 816 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions while adding three rushing touchdowns. The Colts will look to stay hot in a road matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
The Rams are allowing the 17th-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, giving Jones a decent matchup to stay hot. He checks in as a low-end QB1 in fantasy heading into Sunday.
Baker Mayfield, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (bicep) and left tackle Tristan Wirfs (knee) are expected to play in Sunday's Week 4 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Both players are listed as questionable. Mayfield has looked great through three games, totaling six touchdowns and zero interceptions while ranking as the overall QB10. His protection has taken a step back this year due to offensive line injuries, but he'll get a major reinforcement this week with Wirfs back in the mix.
Wirfs missed the first three games of the season but could return to play every offensive snap in Week 4. His presence is key as the Buccaneers work to protect Mayfield's blindside.
Jordan Love, QB, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love looks to shrug off a loss to the Browns in Week 3 when the Packers head to AT&T Stadium to play the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4. Love has had to bank on efficiency through the first few weeks of the season, but for all the great things about the Packers' offense that we've seen, it's not a fantasy-friendly offense.
Love has not been a top 12 quarterback in fantasy in each of the season's three weeks, capping out at QB13 in his Week 2 matchup against the Commanders. Passing volume is a major concern for the Packers as well, as Green Bay sports the third-lowest raw pass rate (53 percent) in the NFL and has just one game over 30 passing attempts since Week 9 of 2024: against the Commanders in Week 2. That game was also just the fourth game of 20+ fantasy points for Love in his last 16 starts where he didn't leave the game dating back to 2023.
The Packers have a prime matchup against the Cowboys, who have given up the most passing yardage in the NFL. Still, Love cannot be a trusted fantasy QB1 this week with passing volume concerns.
Jared Goff, QB, Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has been playing at a high level so far in 2025, completing 77.9% of his pass attempts for 761 yards, seven touchdowns, and one interception through his first three games.
Goff has a difficult matchup in Week 4 against the Cleveland Browns. Through three games, Cleveland has allowed the fifth-fewest passing yards in the NFL (521) and has recorded 11 sacks, tied for the fourth-most in the league.
Goff may struggle to move his offense up and down the field against Cleveland as easily as he has over the past two weeks against the Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens. In Week 4, Goff profiles as a solid fantasy QB2 in two-quarterback formats, but he should be avoided where possible in single-QB leagues.
Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had a rough Week 3 as the Cowboys fell 31-14 to the Bears. He completed 31 of 40 passes for 251 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. The loss of star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb (ankle) to a high ankle sprain early in the game only made matters worse, limiting Prescott's options in the passing game.
On the season, Prescott ranks just QB17 in fantasy, and the struggles are mounting. This week won't get any easier; the Cowboys are set to take on a stingy Green Bay Packers defense. He faces a tough matchup against former teammate Micah Parsons, known for his relentless pass rush, and will be without his No. 1 target. With Lamb sidelined and pressure expected from the defense, Prescott's performance is likely to stay inconsistent.
Fantasy managers should proceed with caution and consider alternative quarterback options for the short term. The 32-year-old is QB21 in the latest RotoBaller Week 4 rankings, making him mainly an option in superflex or 2QB leagues.
Geno Smith, QB, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith enters Week 4 with a strong opportunity to post QB1 numbers against the struggling Chicago Bears defense.
Chicago has allowed 247.7 passing yards per game while ranking 27th in total defense and 26th against the pass, creating an inviting matchup for fantasy managers. Smith is coming off a sharp performance in Week 3 where he threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns, showing clear chemistry with his receiving corps.
With the Bears' secondary routinely giving up big plays, Smith carries both a safe floor and a sneaky-high ceiling this week. He should be started confidently as a low-end QB1 in all fantasy formats.
Brock Purdy, QB, San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) has been removed from the injury report and will return in Week 4 after missing the past two games.
Backup Mac Jones handled starts in his absence, but Purdy looked sharp in his lone appearance this season, completing 26 of 35 passes for 277 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions against a tough Seahawks defense in Week 1.
Purdy now draws a challenging matchup with the Jaguars, who lead the league in interceptions forced through three weeks. Complicating matters, the 49ers' offensive line remains shaky, and wideouts Jauan Jennings (ankle) and Ricky Pearsall (knee) are both battling injuries. Given the circumstances, Purdy profiles as a safe QB2 in Week 4.
