Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 13:
Baker Mayfield, QB, Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (left shoulder) was a full participant in Friday's practice session, but is listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Mayfield was upgraded to full after missing Wednesday's practice and being limited on Thursday.
Head coach Todd Bowles said that the 30-year-old looked good in practice on Friday and is trending towards playing on Sunday against the Cardinals. Mayfield suffered a low-grade AC joint sprain to his left shoulder during Tampa Bay's Week 12 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, and while he has a favorable matchup this week against an Arizona defense that has struggled recently, he projects as more of a high-end QB2 in Week 13 with the possibility of a re-injury.
Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Dolphins
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has thrown for over 170 yards in four straight games, and his team has won three of the four games, with six touchdowns and three interceptions during that span. Tua managed to lead his team to a win over the Commanders before last week's bye week, completing 14 of 20 pass attempts for 171 passing yards.
Tagovailoa didn't throw any touchdowns in that game, but the team's run game, led by De'Von Achane, has been doing most of the work during the team's recent success. Even though the Dolphins have been playing better, Tagovailoa's numbers have still been mediocre. He is only the QB21 this week in RotoBaller's Week 13 rankings, so he is a low-end QB2 in deep leagues, even though he has a favorable matchup this week at home against the Saints.
Marcus Mariota, QB, Commanders
Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota will make his third consecutive start in Week 13 against the Denver Broncos with Jayden Daniels (elbow) ruled out. Daniels returned as a limited participant in practice this week, but hasn't been cleared for contact yet and will need at least another week. Mariota has performed well this season with Daniels sidelined, completing 65.7% of his passes for 1,065 yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions while adding 27 carries for 193 yards and another score as a runner in seven games (five starts).
The 32-year-old veteran will have No. 1 wide receiver Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) back from his second multi-game absence on Sunday Night Football against an elite Denver Broncos defense that has allowed the second fewest fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. Mariota profiles as a mid-range QB2 option for Week 13.
Tyrod Taylor, QB, Jets
New York Jets quarterback Tyrod Taylor performed well in his second start of the season last weekend and will try to build off of it against a fickle Atlanta Falcons defense this Sunday. The veteran wasn't exactly a fantasy-viable option in Week 12, although New York's offense encouragingly showed a bit of rhythm for at least one game. Atlanta has been formidable at times this season, affording opposing QBs the eleventh-fewest fantasy points per outing (15.41).
Furthermore, their 190.4 passing yards per game allowed is the eighth-best mark in the league. While a porous rush defense may contribute to the overall numbers, it doesn't change Taylor's status as a risky play, making him only a low-ceiling streaming option in superflex/2QB formats. The 36-year-old is RotoBaller's QB26 in Week 13's ranks.
Aaron Rodgers, QB, Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said that quarterback Aaron Rodgers (wrist) won't have a game designation for this weekend and will play on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills in Week 13, according to Nick Farabaugh of Penn Live. Rodgers was a full participant in practice on Friday. "He just got more reps," Tomlin said. The head coach also said that Rodgers was able to take some snaps under center. The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer suffered a small fracture to his left (non-throwing) hand in Week 11 and did not play in last week's loss to the Chicago Bears.
Rodgers has been a QB2 in fantasy in his first year in Pittsburgh, throwing for 1,969 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions through 10 games played. Although he'll be facing a reeling Bills defense with plenty of injuries, Rodgers should remain in the low-end QB2 tier for fantasy purposes as he plays through his wrist fracture.
