When Is Opening Day For The MLB? 2024 Fantasy Baseball Outlook

Corey Seager - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

Brenton compiles the schedules for Opening Day and the opening weekend of the 2024 MLB regular season and highlights some key games to look forward to. Who does your favorite team open up against?

The calendar has flipped to February, which means the countdown to spring training is on! While the sounds of bats cracking and leather snapping are not far away, we still have some time before the meaningful games begin.

As was the case last season, the 2024 regular season opens early. March 30 marked Opening Day last season, but we start even earlier in 2024 as Thursday, March 28 sees all 30 MLB clubs open their respective seasons. Several teams have the day off on the Friday before a full slate of MLB action returns on Saturday.

Let's dive in and check out how Opening Day is shaping up as we get pumped for baseball to return!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Thursday, March 28

The Texas Rangers begin the defense of their first World Series title in franchise history in an interleague contest against the visiting Chicago Cubs. The runner-up Arizona Diamondbacks begin their defense of their NL crown by hosting a division rival, the Colorado Rockies.

The D-backs vs. Rockies is one of six divisional contests on Opening Day in 2024. The other five consist of the Braves vs. Phillies, Giants vs. Padres, Blue Jays vs. Rays, Twins vs. Royals, and Tigers vs. White Sox.

Of course, plenty of eyes will be on the star-studded Dodgers, who went out and landed superstar Shohei Ohtani as well as the highly coveted Yoshinobu Yamamoto to front their newly formed rotation. The Dodgers host the St. Louis Cardinals, another club that was busy adding a wealth of pitching this winter.

Friday, March 29

As noted, roughly half the league has a scheduled off day on the second day of the season for weather purposes. This way, if there is an Opening Day postponement, the game could potentially be made up on Friday.

You'll notice that day two of the regular season features hosting teams that either play indoors or in warmer climates. The chances of a postponement on this day are near zero.

Saturday, March 30

Every MLB club returns to action on Saturday, March 30. It should be noted that every matchup from Opening Day remains through the weekend, meaning every team begins their 2024 campaign with a four-game series. Teams will then begin their first full week of the season on Monday, March 31.

If you're a big baseball fan, you will already be highly invested by this point, with overreactions aplenty in the first weekend of the big-league season.

Make sure to take a breath, buckle up, and enjoy the 2024 MLB regular season, running from March 28 through September 29!
