Week 7 Wide Receiver (WR) Rankings Analysis

By Zach Wilkens (@LopsidedTrades)

Jeremy Maclin passed his concussion protocol and I expect him to play well this week. Without Jeremy Maclin, the offense should run through Maclin with a bit of Travis Kelce thrown in as well. I already talked about why I don’t like the Chiefs’ RBs this week. If that holds true it means a lot of targets for Maclin. In the three games where he has had at least 10 targets he averaged 125 rec yards. I have him at WR11 this week.

I am a little low on Allen Robinson at WR16 this week. I am a big ARob fan but it’s a tough matchup. The Bills have already done a good job containing top WRs such as Odell Beckham and A.J. Green. That coupled with Robinson perhaps being slightly limited by a leg contusion (certainly far from a serious injury but I’m betting he is very sore this week, the collision that caused it was vicious!) should keep him from putting up WR1 numbers this week.

One positive for Jordan Matthews this week - he plays primarily out of the slot which means he should avoid shutdown corner Josh Norman. Matthews has been pretty disappointing this season but that positive news keeps him in low WR2 territory this week at WR22.

Is Stefon Diggs the real deal? I think he is pretty good and worthy of the starting role over Charles Johnson but this still isn’t a high powered offense. That keeps him in flex territory only this week at WR32. I think it’s important to remember he has only played two games so far!

If you need a deep flier at the position, let me throw out a name for you: Nate Washington. He has managed respectable games of 6-105 and 3-63 so far and that was while contending with Cecil Shorts for targets behind Deandre Hopkins. Even with Hopkins a lock for 12-15 targets, someone else is going to be getting some as well. Washington had at least 7 targets in each of the first three games. Without Cecil Shorts he could see 10 and put up a surprisingly solid day.
