Week 2 DFS GPP Value Plays For FanDuel And DraftKings

Brandon Murchison analyzes optimal DFS value plays for tournaments for Week 2 of the NFL season. These GPP value plays are worth considering on FanDuel and DraftKings daily fantasy sports games.

Week 1 in the NFL brought a few surprises to fantasy owners, especially those in DFS. Players like Marquise Brown and Sammy Watkins were low-owned options but turned out to be tournament winners for some. In a week in which we thought that the upper echelon players in the league would come out ready to play, they were outshined by glorified bench players. But being keen on the matchups for the lower-tier players around the league is what sets apart the top owners from the bottom feeders.

Will Week 2 be similar in terms of player production? That could be the case as the studs around the NFL are still rounding into shape due to lack of playing time in the preseason. That is what gives the secondary players a leg up as the season opens. They come in in game shape and ready to play. This is something that can not be overstated and should be a tool to use as you prepare your Week 2 lineups.

What are some of the top sneaky plays for Week 2? That is what I present to you. Here are some DFS options for Week 2 GPPs and tournaments with plus matchups that you would not normally consider.

 

Week 2 Quarterback Value Play for GPPs

Josh Allen @ New York Giants ($7,500 FanDuel, $5,300 DraftKings)

Josh Allen, coming off of a mediocre game (254 passing yards and two total TDs) in Week 1, will be staying in New York for Week 2 as the Bills play against the Giants. Allen and the offense seemed to struggle to get out of the blocks against the Jets but that should not be the case this week. The Giants will be reeling after surrendering a monster performance to Dak Prescott and the Cowboys. I can see Allen continuing his solid connection with John Brown here for a score while also adding in two more (one rushing). The appeal of Allen will be what he can do for you as a dual-threat QB and will be a player that should go overlooked in DFS this week. Stack him with Brown and you will have the makings of a solid lineup.

 

Week 2 Running Back Value Play for GPPs

Chris Thompson vs. Dallas Cowboys ($5,300 FanDuel, $3,900 DraftKings)

Thompson had a strong start to the 2019 season with a seven-catch, 68-yard game in Week 1. Coming into Week 2 things could certainly change with his usage with Derrius Guice now pon the shelf. Adrian Peterson will get the start and handle the rushing duties, but it will be Thompson that could hold the most value in this backfield. Facing a Cowboys Defense that just gave up seven catches to the Giants backfield, Thompson could be heavily utilized yet again. I expect to see the Redskins trailing in this contest and with that, he should see a large number of targets again in Week 2. He will be low-owned in DFS and a solid sneaky play in your Flex spot for the week.

 

Week 2 Wide Receiver Value Play for GPPs

Hunter Renfrow vs. Kansas City Chiefs ($4,500 FanDuel, $4,000 DraftKings)

Sure, Renfrow may have disappointed in Week 1 with only two catches (13 yards), but the Raiders played with a lead and focused on the running game with Josh Jacobs on the way to a victory. But that should not be the case in Week 2 with the Chiefs and their high-powered offense coming to town. The Chiefs surrendered the 4th most points to opposing receivers in Week 1 with Chris Conley (6 catches for 97 yards and a score) doing a lot of damage over the middle of the field. That is where Renfrow will be busiest in this game. I expect for the Chiefs to keep plenty of attention on Tyrell Williams and Darren Waller, leaving Renfrow plenty of room to operate in zone coverages. He will be virtually free in DFS this week and allows you roster flexibility elsewhere.

 

Week 2 Tight End Value Play for GPPs

Noah Fant vs. Chicago Bears ($5,200 FanDuel, $3,000 DraftKings)

Although they were trailing for much of the game in Week 1, Fant was somewhat silent in the stat column (2 catches for 29 yards). Heading into Week 2, the Broncos face a stiff test against an angry Bears Defense. The Bears allowed the 6th most points to tight ends in Week 1 and should be an area to focus on for the Broncos in this matchup. With the pass rush expected to get to Joe Flacco in a hurry, look for him to dump the ball off to Fant on several checkdowns. I can see Fant getting into the endzone in this game, which will help him far exceed his value in DFS in Week 2. A sneaky option that will allow to spend your money elsewhere as you build a money making lineup.
