Week 12 Tight End (TE) Rankings Analysis

By Zach Wilkens (@LopsidedTrades)

I was nervous about Jordan Reed when I heard he had a sprained MCL, but he is good to go and not even listed on this week’s injury report. That’s a good thing too, because it’s a great matchup.

In the first game against the Giants this season, Reed had six catches for 96 yards. The Giants give up the 2nd most points to TEs. Get him in your lineups!

Gary Barnidge had a fine game last week, but I think it’s safe to say owners are glad to hear Josh McCown is back in over Johnny Manziel. Barnidge had six catches for 65 yards and a score last week. In the six full starts with McCown, he averaged 85 yards a game with six touchdowns. Expect more of the same.

If there was ever a week to shy away from Travis Kelce, this is it. The Bills are an awful matchup for tight ends. They got beaten up by Rob Gronkowski in Week 2, but even then they managed to come back and shut him down just last week.

Kelce has been consistently decent but not great this season. He’s usually good for at least 10 PPR points, but even that may be a stretch this week. I have him at TE10.

If you’re looking for a sleeper this week, I think Ladarius Green offers a lot of promise. He was a surprise active player last week, but the Chiefs unsurprisingly shut both he and Antonio Gates down. The Chiefs have shut down tight ends all season, and give up only 29 yards per game to tight ends.

The Jaguars on the other hand allow the third most yards to tight ends. Gates is still the #1 here, but the Chargers use both Gates and Green about the same amount (29 snaps for Gates, 27 for Green). Last week it didn’t matter, but this week it does. Both will be on the field and both should have solid days.
