Waiver Wire Pickups For Second Base (2B) & Shortstop (SS) For Week 25

Are you still alive? At this point you’re either in the head-to-head championship matchup or down to the nitty-gritty in roto leagues, and everything could come down to the moves you make this week. I’m here to provide middle infield options for one last push! As always, feel free to reach out to me directly @Roto_Dubs with any questions about the middle infield or fantasy baseball in general.

Editor’s Note: to read about even more waiver wire options for second base and shortstop, be sure to check out our famous waiver wire pickups list which is a running list that is updated daily.

Second Base (2B) Waiver Wire Pickups

Jonathan Schoop (BAL)—Owned in 21.9% of ESPN leagues

Schoop has hit .300 across his last 15 games and is rounding out a really nice stretch since he returned from the DL in July. He may find himself farther up the order if he continues to hit well, which should afford more opportunities for runs and RBIs. It’s a shame Schoop missed so much time, as his numbers indicate top-10 performance—he has 14 homers, 37 RBIs and 29 runs scored in just 260 at-bats. That’s elite power from a middle infielder, and he could be a difference-maker in the final weeks. Add him and cross your fingers.

Baller Move: Add in points leagues with 10+ teams/add in roto leagues with 10+ teams.

Eddie Rosario (MIN)—Owned in 9.0%% of ESPN leagues

Rosario has been quietly solid all season, and he’s been particularly hot of late. He’s hitting .391 across his last seven games, and looks to be finishing out the season on a high note. Rosario has carved out a starting role on a Twins team that is looking to make a playoff push. If you’re desperate, he has the double-digit power and speed that might push your squad over the edge in the final stages of the season.

Shortstop (SS) Waiver Wire Pickups

Cliff Pennington (TOR)—Owned in 0.4% of ESPN leagues

With Troy Tulowitzki out for the foreseeable future, Pennington will start over the next few weeks at shortstop for the electric Toronto Blue Jays. Any piece of that offense is worth having, and Pennington has been swinging a hot enough bat to merit a fantasy start. He has two homers and seven RBIs in the last week. Even from the bottom of that lineup, he’ll have opportunities to score and drive in runs.

Baller Move: Add in points leagues with 10+ leagues/ add in roto leagues with 10+ teams

Kelby Tomlinson (SF)—Owned in 10.0% of ESPN leagues

With Joe Panik shut down for the season, Tomlinson should start at second for the Giants down the stretch. He has filled in admirably thus far, hitting .307 with 15 runs scored, 15 RBIs and five stolen bases. He has almost no power to speak of, but he could be a very nice source of batting average and stolen bases over the last few weeks. If you’re trying to throw a Hail Mary, why not give a promising rookie a shot?

Baller Move: Add in points leagues with 10+ teams/add in roto leagues with 10+ teams
