ANALYSIS: The New England Patriots bolstered their running back room by adding TreVeyon Henderson from the Ohio State Buckeyes in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Henderson played a key role on their National Championship team, posting an elite 7.1 YPC, the highest mark in the Big Ten. Henderson ran for 1,016 total yards and punched in 11 total touchdowns.
Henderson will join a relatively crowded backfield that is led by Rhamondre Stevenson, who has served as the lead option in New England for several seasons. However, in 2024, Stevenson struggled to control the ball, as he fumbled it seven times and lost three of them.
During the preseason, Henderson has flashed immense upside as he scored on a 100-yard kickoff return in his first professional game against the Washington Commanders. He also punched in another touchdown during their contest against the Minnesota Vikings.
While Stevenson will likely be given opportunities early in the season, given Henderson's higher efficiency, fantasy managers should expect him to take over the backfield later in the campaign.
Even though he may be limited in their Week 1 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders, given his ability to contribute as a rusher and a receiver, Henderson carries high-end RB2/RB3 value in all formats. If he can take on a large workload, he would enter Week 2 carrying strong RB2 upside.
