NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 12/3/22

The wild outcomes continue to flood each slate leading up to the holiday roster freeze. As we approach Christmas, teams will be upset and many will use their current success and failure as a measuring point for their next steps after the freeze is over. This includes roster moves up to the hour prior to puck drop if the player is close enough and it requires Daily Fantasy Players to be more mindful of last-minute news. Tonight we will be back with a large 11-game slate with a few prime matchups and multiple toss-ups. There will be two teams playing on a back-to-back: Ottawa and New York Rangers. The currently live top-3 highest implied team totals are: Edmonton with 4, Pittsburgh with 3.8 and Rangers with 3.8 goals. I will do my best in guiding you through this nine-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Vegas Odds for the Day

NHL DFS Goalies

Darcy Kuemper- DK $7.4K || FD $7.1K

Opponent - Calgary Flames

Kuemper is expected to start for the Capitals in what will be another meeting with the Flames within the last week. Kuemper just got done playing Calgary on Black Friday, where he posted a 3-0 shutout in between a 3-2 win over Philadelphia and a 5-1 win against Vancouver. With an increase in healthy bodies and chemistry finally building, the Capitals have been able to support Kuemper in his efforts to keep the starting job. Had he not lost in a 3-2 overtime game to Seattle two days ago, he would have 4 wins in his last 4 games. Calgary is a shot-first team with very few high-quality shots on the net, this is a perfect game for Kuemper to bounce back with.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Jarry (DK $8.1K || FD $8.3K), Murray (DK $7.6K || FD $7.5K)

NHL DFS Centers

Matty Beniers-DK $4.8K || FD $7.2K

Opponent - Florida Panthers

Despite their little resurgence as of late, it is hard to trust the Florida Panthers. They continue to struggle on both ends of the ice and especially in net, conceding multiple questionable goals. This is where Beniers and his linemates come into play. Seattle’s second line has been doing the bulk of the damage lately to teams and Beniers himself has 5 goals, 5 assists, 13 shots and 2 blocked shots over his last five games. If not for playing all 10 of his games last season, he would easily be the favorite for the Calder Trophy this season as the best rookie.

Sidney Crosby- DK $6.8K || FD $9.4K

Opponent - Pittsburgh Penguins

I will be in complete shock if Crosby does not have a massive game tonight. The center is on a 3-game point streak, accumulating 1 goal, 3 assists, 9 shots and 1 blocked shot over that time frame. No matter what line he faces from the Blues, they will not have what it takes to slow him down and they do not have many defensive-minded defensemen either. Furthermore, Binnington is expected to start and he has been less than ideal in net this season. Guentzel, Crosby & Rakell have been a formidable trio to play against and they are the most successful line for the Penguins.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): McDavid (DK 9.2K || FD $10.4K), Hughes (DK $7.5K || FD $9.5K)

NHL DFS Wings

Teuvo Teravainen- DK $3.8K || FD $4.5K

Opponent - Los Angeles Kings

Outside of those that follow the NHL news snippets and read this article, Teravainen could very well go under the radar in a massive way tonight. The winger is expected to return to the lineup as soon as possible after being removed from Injured Reserved after a rather long stint off the ice. Prior to getting hurt in the 7-2 win over Edmonton on November 10th, Teravainen was on his way to his biggest performance of the season, assisting 2 goals and taking 1 shot in 7.3 minutes. Prior to that Teravainen only had 5 assists, 31 shots and 3 blocked shots on the season through 13 appearances. Perhaps the injury could be a blessing in disguise to reset his mind and get back to the 65+ point season he had last year.

Leon Draisaitl- DK $8K || FD $10.1K

Opponent - Montreal Canadiens

We did not highlight McDavid, but we cannot pass up focusing on the line as a whole. Draisaitl is on pace to set monster numbers this season once again and thanks to his move to McDavid’s wing. In the German’s last five games, he has 5 goals, 2 assists and 19 shots. He is being funneled the puck in the best possible areas to succeed and there is no doubt that he will do damage against a smaller Canadiens team.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Mercer (DK $4K || FD $5.4K), Lafreniere (DK $2.8K || FD $4.1K)

NHL DFS Defensemen

Jeff Petry- DK $4.8K || FD $5.5K

Opponent - St Louis Blues

It is almost astonishing that Petry is still at the salary he is. The defender is taking the role of Kris Letang while the latter recovers from the second stroke of his life. In the first game running the top pairing and top power-play, Petry had 1 assist, 2 shots and 2 blocked shots. Those are solid numbers and it is expected that fans of his game will continue to see more and more production as long as he is getting the minutes.

Nicolas Hague- DK $2.9K || FD $4K

Opponent - Detroit Red Wings

Hague would be a phenomenal value play once again if teammate Alex Pietrangelo does not suit up. The former has now run the second power-play for the Golden Knights for a second straight game. He is not a point producer at heart, but he is a big peripheral player. In the two games, he has taken extra responsibility, he has 3 shots and 4 blocked shots. As long as he can continue to perform at this level, he will continue to hit value.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Burns (DK $6.5K || FD $6.7K), Benning (DK $2.6K || FD $3.6K)
