NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 11/29/22

With some crazy games lately – multiple games going to overtime – we will hopefully get back to the norm with teams winning in regulation and for us to stop sweating our favorite teams’ games. We are back with a 9-game slate with a few prime matchups and multiple toss-ups. There will be a few teams playing on a back-to-back: Tampa Bay and Florida. The currently live top-3 highest implied team totals are: Nashville with 4, Calgary with 3.7 and Islanders with 3.5 goals. I will do my best in guiding you through this nine-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. EST.

NHL DFS Goalies

Ilya Sorokin- DK $8.3K || FD $8.3K

Opponent - Philadelphia Flyers

There are some very good spots for netminders tonight which makes it very difficult to pick one to highlight, but we will go back to the Sorokin well against the Flyers. Sorokin is currently on a heater with 3 wins in his last 3 games while averaging less than 2 goals against per game and a 0.953 save percentage. Keep in mind that in one of those performances, he shut out the Oilers, making 49 saves! If we date his performances back to his last five games, he has won 4 out of 5 appearances with his only loss a 5-4 loss to Nashville. There is no doubt that Sorokin is one of the most consistent goalies and most successful goalies in the league this year making an early run for the Vezina. The Flyers are starting to see some offensive success after promoting center Morgan Frost, but will that be enough to crack Sorokin?

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Jarry (DK $7.9K || FD $8K), Bobrovsky (DK $7.1K || FD $8.1K)

NHL DFS Centers

Colton Sissons-DK $2.6K || FD $4K

Opponent - Anaheim Ducks

The Predators have shaken the lineups once again, moving Colton Sissons and linemate Tanner Jeannot to the second line with Matt Duchene. This provides Sissons with a big opportunity to cement a spot in the top six with fellow centerman Ryan Johansen struggling consistently. Luckily for fantasy purposes, Sissons’ salary is at the bottom of the range providing ample savings to pay up elsewhere and he happens to be playing against not only one of the worst defenses in the league but also one of the worst defensive lines in the league. All we need are a few shots and perhaps a lucky puck bounce and he will make value.

Brock Nelson- DK $5.6K || FD $7.9K

Opponent - Philadelphia Flyers

One day, I may be able to break free from writing about Brock Nelson, but for the time being, we are back once again. Nelson is currently on a 2-game goal streak while taking 5 shots and blocking 3 shots in that span. The center is the focal point of anything offense related for the Islanders at this point and he will be playing against a smaller line for the Flyers, providing him a physical boost in his play. Add to the fact that the Flyers are one of the worst defenses in the league and this is a match made in heaven. The Flyers are currently the third-worst defense in scoring chances against per 60 – 34.59 – and they sit in the middle of the pack in goals against per 60 – 3.27 – thanks to their goaltending. If Felix Sandstrom starts instead of Carter Hart for the Flyers, it will provide a massive boost to all Islander players.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Malkin (DK 5.9K || FD $7.5K), Bennett (DK $5.4K || FD $6.5K)

NHL DFS Wings

Timo Meier- DK $8.3K || FD $9K

Opponent - Montreal Canadiens

Meier and teammate Erik Karlsson are carrying the Sharks right now and it will be hard to fade the winger due to the sheer amount of shots he takes each game. Over his last five games, he has 4 goals, 2 assists and 27 shots. Even without the goals, he is making close to value thanks to the shots bonus. The Canadiens have a lot to prove defensively still, sitting in the bottom of the league in shots against per 60, scoring chances against per 60 and goals against per 60. If Meier can outplay Canadiens netminder Jake Allen, he will have a big night ahead of him.

Alex Ovechkin- DK $7.7K || FD $8K

Opponent - Vancouver Canucks

I am not sure if it is just me or not, but I feel that Ovechkin has not been talked about very much this year while he is having just under a point-per-game season. The Capitals winger is putting up some big numbers lately with 3 goals, 4 assists and 26 shots over his last five appearances. The Capitals also have a healthy team for the first time this season if you exclude a few defenders. The Canucks sit in the bottom 10 of the league in every facet of the term defense and their expected starter, Thatcher Demko, is also one of the worst goalies this season in Goals Saved Above Expected Per 60 – -0.711 –.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Tkachuk (DK $8.8K || FD $10.1K), Duchene (DK $4.3K || FD $6.1K)

NHL DFS Defensemen

Erik Karlsson- DK $8.7K || FD $8.6K

Opponent - Montreal Canadiens

I think I can speak for anyone that watches and pays attention to hockey that it would be jaw-dropping if Karlsson is not moved this season. The defender is back and in a big way. Not only is Karlsson putting up points and peripherals – 4 assists, 16 shots and 10 blocked shots in his last five games –, but the way he is skating and handling the puck shows confidence oozing out of him. To put the cherry on top, Karlsson has not exceeded 45 points in 4 seasons with the Sharks and he currently has 32 points in 24 games. The Canadiens’ defense was aforementioned and Karlsson will look to exploit them fully.

Cam Fowler- DK $4.3K || FD $4.9K

Opponent - Nashville Predators

After posting just 1 assist, 20 shots and 17 blocked shots through 12 appearances to start the season, Fowler has turned it up a few notches. The defender has 2 goals, 8 assists, 21 shots and 7 blocked shots over his last 10 games. The biggest reason for this is the increase in participation in the offense. The defender started out playing a more defensive role and it weighed his offensive skills down. Now, he is being included in rushes more on both even-strength and the man advantage and it has paid off. Nashville has some solid players on the blueline, but their defense is still shaky and their expected netminder, Juuse Saros can be shaky at times too.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Josi (DK $8.1K || FD $8K), Petry (DK $4.4K || FD $5.5K)
