The Cut List (Week 10): Players To Consider Cutting Bait On

It worked! Me listing Carlos Correa on the Cut List "hot list" actually sparked him. Of course I was never serious about dropping Correa, but the reverse jinx is real.

Anyways, we're basically a third of the way through the season and you're getting a good grasp on how good (or bad) your team is. I can't cover every player that is droppable, for every league size and format, but I chose a few that stood out for me. Here is a list of some guys with whom you shouldn't waste your time, as we head into Week 10 of the fantasy baseball season.

Editor’s Note: to read about even more waiver wire options, be sure to check out our famous waiver wire pickups list which is a running list that is updated daily. Prefer using your phone? Our free waiver wire app is available for download in the Apple & Android Stores.

Week 10 Players to Consider Cutting

1) Randall Grichuk (STL, OF)

Many people were high on Grichuk entering the season because of his power potential. He hadn't done much, but was finally starting to deliver on said potential. Unfortunately, that turned out to be more of a flash in the pan. Grichuk is now two for his last 22 including Sunday's action. He will still display the power on occasion, but his counting stats don't really justify having a poor man's Khris Davis on your roster.

2) Brandon Drury (ARI, 3B/OF)

The Diamondbacks are a mess when it comes to how they distribute playing time. It's hard for these guys to get into a rhythm. That is the exact same opening sentence I used when I featured Yasmany Tomas last week. The same applies to Drury though. Drury has, obviously, cooled off from his awesome start and his playing time has been sporadic ever since. Even when he does play, he's clearly nowhere near the same player he was earlier. He belongs on the waiver wire until he shows signs of life.

3) Michael Wacha (STL, SP)

Man what happened to this guy? I remember owning Wacha when he first came up and watching him baffle hitters. This season has been a totally different story, at least the last few starts. Wacha's ERA and WHIP sit at an ugly 5.16 and 1.51. Earlier in the season Wacha looked great, but since May 3rd he's been terrible. He's faced some strong offenses, but it's concerning nonetheless. I wouldn't blame anyone for cutting him.

4) Prince Fielder (TEX, 1B)

Fielder is even worse than Wacha because at least Wacha started strong. Prince has been a jester (I apologize if I've made that joke before) as his stats are laughable. The average in particular is pathetic compared to what he's capable of. With Jurickson Profar hitting well, Fielder may see some competition for the DH slot. I think it's time to cut bait here.

5) Billy Burns (OAK, OF)

Billy Burns has one job...one job! To get on and steal. He's doing okay racking up steals as he has 12 on the season. The pedestrian batting average though, and lack of other counting stats can make it hard to own him. The fact that he hasn't stolen a base in two weeks doesn't help his cause either. I'd move on honestly.

Hot Seat

So these are some guys you shouldn't cut just yet, but who would be the first to go on most rosters if you need to add someone else.

1) Marcus Stroman (TOR, SP)

Stroman has had a polarizing season. He beats up on weak teams like the Rays, but gets walloped by some of the better teams. In all fairness, three of his bad starts have been against the Red Sox. There are some warning signs though as he only has 55 K in 80.1 IP. Don't cut him yet, as Stroman does possess a good amount of upside. However, he's definitely on the hot seat if he can't figure out how to pitch against better teams. With where he was drafted he shouldn't have to be a streamer.

2) Odubel Herrera (PHI, OF)

I'm really nitpicking here, and I'm not actually recommending for anyone to drop him, but I'm hoping for a repeat of the reverse jinx effect. Heck, on Sunday Odubel already had himself a day. Before Sunday's action though, Herrera was in a bit of a slump and had not been providing enough in terms of counting stats. He's still a monster in OBP leagues, but those in standard scoring leagues could consider cutting him if a can't miss guy somehow becomes available. That said, Sunday could be the beginning of an outburst. Hang on for now, keep on eye out over the next few weeks, and play things by ear.
