Waiver Wire Pickups For Second Base (2B) and Shortstop (SS)

By Cbl62 (Own work) [CC-BY-SA-3.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0)], via Wikimedia Commons

Bill Dubiel analyzes fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups and sleepers at second base (2B) and shortstop (SS) for Week 14. Target these middle infielders (MI).

So how’d you do in week 13? Whether you’re at the top of the heap or languishing in the basement, your team can always use a shot in the arm…or in this case, the roster. Here’s a look at some middle infielders who could be useful in the next few weeks, and could still be sleepers depending on your league format including AL-Only and NL-Only leagues. If they are still available on your league's waiver wire, consider snatching them up. At the very least keep them on your radar…

Second Base (2B) Waiver Wire Pickups

Scooter Gennett (2B, MIL) - Owned in 49% of leagues

Gennett is still technically in a platoon with Rickie Weeks at second base, but that may not be for long. Gennett has been producing, with 32 hits in his last 30 games, along with 13 RBIs and 19 runs scored. I definitely believe Gennett is going to play his way out of the platoon, and you can use him for the time being anyway. Definitely take a flier, and if not keep an eye on him.

Omar Infante (2B, KC) - Owned in 22.2% of leagues

By Cbl62 (Own work) [CC-BY-SA-3.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0)], via Wikimedia CommonsInfante was icy cold through May, but he has heated up significantly in the last couple weeks of June. The Royals offense isn’t exactly loaded with boomsticks, but when runs are being produced, chances are good Infante will be involved.

I wouldn’t expect any power out of him - but if you need a solid source of batting average and a contributor in most of the counting categories, Infante could be just the guy for your lineup.

Baller Move: Add in deeper and AL-Only leagues

Shortstop (SS) Waiver Wire Pickups

Jordy Mercer (SS / 2B, PIT) - Owned in 12.3% of leagues

Mercer isn’t a guy who you would typically consider, but he hit almost .300 in June. Throw in four jacks and a handful of RBIs, and he was actually sneakily helpful over the last few weeks. The Pittsburgh offense is beginning to heat up, and Mercer has followed that trend. He isn’t a guy who’s going to stick around, but if you need an injury fill-in, you could do much worse.

Baller Move: Add in deeper leagues

Brad Miller (SS / 2B, SEA) - Owned in 12.8% of leagues

Don’t look at Miller’s season stats if you’re considering adding him - they’re not good. The beginning of the season was miserable for Miller, but he turned things around in June. He’s hitting over .300 in June and added in four homers, which I think is a sign that he’s figured things out. He’s a talented hitter who can be a significant contributor if he hits at the level he’s capable of.

Baller Move:Add in deeper leagues, monitor in all leagues
