Should I drop Zach Ertz for fantasy football Week 6? Is Zach Ertz a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.
Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz had a hot start to his 2025 season. He scored 11.6 and 18.4 PPR fantasy points in his first two games and was one of the top tight ends in fantasy football over that stretch.
Since then, he's cooled off significantly. Without touchdowns to boost his totals, he's failed to score double-digit PPR fantasy points in any of his games since then. And in Week 5, he had just one target, which didn't result in a catch.
Getting blanked at any position hurts, and it requires you to reevaluate whether you should have that player on your roster, especially if that player isn't an elite talent. So, should Ertz be dropped in fantasy leagues?

Should I Drop Zach Ertz in Fantasy Football?
It's probably not the worst idea. His 2024 season production, as surprising as it was, was largely driven by Washington not having a legitimate WR2. Outside of wide receiver Terry McLaurin (quad) and Ertz, the Commanders didn't have any real receiving threats.
This season, the Commanders now have wideout Deebo Samuel Sr. Through five contests, he's racked up 30 catches on 38 targets for 300 yards and three touchdowns. The fact that Ertz didn't have any catches even though McLaurin didn't play in Week 5 is concerning.
Through five games, Deebo Samuel has totaled 30 catches, 300 receiving yards, 46 rushing yards and 4 TDs
He was great in LA today with 8/96/1 and is on pace for 100+ catches and 1,000+ yards this season

Samuel and Scary Terry being the focal points of the passing offense moving forward makes perfect sense. There's little reason to believe that this won't be the case, with Ertz taking a backseat to them. He's a fine player to drop if you have a decent backup plan.
Who Should I Pick Up for Fantasy Football?
There are two very obvious players to grab on waivers this week. The first is New York Jets tight end Mason Taylor. He's quickly making a case to be the de facto WR2 for the Jets offense. Last game, he had nine catches on 12 targets for 67 yards. He has obvious value in PPR leagues.
As Ertz showed us last season, a TE who serves as the second (or first) pass-catching threat on their team is incredibly valuable. Another player who could fit this bill is New York Giants TE Theo Johnson, who eclipsed 21 PPR fantasy points in Week 5 by catching six passes for 33 yards and two touchdowns.

Johnson has had excellent red-zone usage so far. That makes him especially valuable in non-PPR leagues. Denver Broncos tight end Evan Engram finally did something in 2025 as well. He scored 13.3 PPR fantasy points with four catches for 33 yards and a receiving score.
Evan Engram has been running open on these intermediate crossers a lot early in the year, so I was very pleased seeing Bo finally make the throw against Philly. pic.twitter.com/IOn0CMQY9O

Engram's role has been frustrating so far, but he could be building chemistry with his quarterback and have better days ahead.
