Should I Drop Tyjae Spears? Fantasy Football Outlook for Week 7

Tyjae Spears - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Should I drop Tyjae Spears for fantasy football Week 7? Is Tyjae Spears a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.

After a considerable amount of pre-season hype, Tennessee Titans running back Tyjae Spears (hamstring) has not produced to the level of hopes of fantasy managers this season. He has yet to score more than 12 PPR fantasy points and has logged three games in the single digits of scoring.

Instead, it's been lead running back and former Dallas Cowboy, Tony Pollard, who has rebounded from a tough 2023 and has been a solid start-worthy player in most fantasy leagues. He's handled more volume than expected after the Titans' coaching staff indicated that he and Spears would mostly split the workload in the backfield.

So is Tyjae Spears worth dropping ahead of Week 7 in fantasy football?

Should I Drop Tyjae Spears in Fantasy Football?

Spears has taken a backseat to Pollard this season. The second-year pro has just one game with 15 or more touches, and that came in a Week 4 matchup against the Miami Dolphins with a game script that heavily favored the run. The Dolphins were unable to get much offense going with practice-squad signee Tyler Huntley at quarterback.

He did score a touchdown in that game, which is nice, and showed off nice elusiveness and burst, but he followed that up with a 2.7 PPR point fantasy performance in Week 6 after the bye. He was forced out of the game with a hamstring injury. He's unlikely to play in Week 8. He's little more than a handcuff to Pollard at this point.

He can be dropped outside of deeper leagues for now, especially by managers who don't have Tennessee's lead back on their roster.

Who Should I Pickup in Week 7 Fantasy Football?

Running backs are difficult to find on the waiver wire, especially after a few weeks have passed. There are mostly only solid handcuff options left to snag, and that's if the owners of the lead backs on those teams haven't already snatched them.

Buffalo Bills running back Ray Davis and San Francisco 49ers RB Isaac Guerendo are two examples of these. They both had impressive Week 6 performances when given the opportunity, and both could end up with some standalone value if their coaching staffs decide to give them more opportunities. For now, they're just handcuffs with potential upside, though.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Sean Tucker put on a monster performance in Week 6 and could be inserted into the lineup as part of a three-headed monster. If lead back Rachaad White misses time, Tucker could have nice standalone upside. He's worth a speculative add, especially in deeper leagues.

Los Angeles Chargers running back Kimani Vidal presents an interesting pass-catching upside and showed his skills on a long touchdown catch last week. He probably doesn't have much standalone value for now, but his backfield mate, J.K. Dobbins, has an extensive injury history, and that always presents a possibility of missed time.
