Should I Drop Joe Mixon in Fantasy Football?
Yes, managers in any standard 12-team league should look to cut ties with the former Bengal ahead of Week 8. Given that the team has yet to provide a concrete return date for the veteran, managers should not consider stashing Mixon on their bench.
Even in leagues that have IR spots, Mixon has minimal long-term upside that is not worth holding. In fact, seeing that the team's GM, Nick Caseiro, recently reported that his status remains "in limbo" suggests that Mixon may not even return to the field this season.
Given that he has yet to even step on the practice field, managers should look to pivot to an alternative stash option.

Who Should I Pickup for Fantasy Football?
Instead, managers should look to stash a high-end handcuff running back. For example, the New York Jets' No. 2 RB, Isaiah Davis, has seen his stock climb as their starting running back, Breece Hall, is not only dealing with a knee injury but has also had his name circulated around many trade discussions. Davis has much higher short and long-term upside than Mixon.
Other upside RBs to stash are Jaydon Blue and Brashard Smith. While Blue has not yet seen the workload Smith has, Blue is the clear RB2 to Javonte Williams, who has had his fair share of injuries throughout his career. Smith is coming off a Week 7 showing in which he logged a season-high in snaps and is slowly taking over the No. 2 job in the Kansas City backfield.

When looking at wide receivers, managers should look to target Jalen Coker or Christian Watson. Coker recently returned from IR and is seeing a full-time role as Carolina's top slot wide receiver. Watson carries a questionable tag into Week 8 and could immediately take on a prominent role in the Green Bay offense that has yet to find a consistent alpha WR1.
Managers should only consider stacking Mixon in deeper 14+ team formats with multiple IR spots.
