Should I Drop Joe Mixon in Fantasy Football?
Given his unknown timeline, managers should consider dropping Mixon in all standard formats. Earlier in October, Houston Texans GM Nick Caserio said that the team currently does not have a definite timeline for his potential return, and his ability for the remainder of the season was "in limbo."
Given this update, managers in standard leagues with only a few IR spots should not consider stashing Mixon ahead of Week 7.
While managers in deeper leagues that have multiple IR spots could still look to stash Mixon, several IR-eligible players have more defined timelines and project to hold more fantasy value this season, such as Jalen Coker, Christian Watson, or Terry McLaurin.

Who Should I Pickup for Fantasy Football?
Instead of stashing Mixon, managers should look to stash other IR-eligible players that are nearing a return to action. As noted above, wide receivers Coker (quad) and Watson (knee) are both quickly progressing toward their eventual season debuts. They are expected to hold much higher short and long-term fantasy value.
Both wide receivers are expected to see a high target share in their respective offenses immediately.
Looking at the running back position, managers should look to drop Mixon in favor of high-ups, handcuffs who could see a spike in value if they were to move up the depth chart. This past weekend, managers who stashed Kimani Vidal and Bam Knight were likely rewarded with a short-term RB2. Several handcuffs, like Jaydon Blue, Isaiah Davis, Blake Corum, and Ray Davis, are widely available in most formats and will hold much higher value than Mixon will for the remainder of the campaign.
Seeing the Texans continue to increase rookie Woody Marks's role in the backfield suggests they are not expecting their veteran RB to make much of an impact this season, if he can return. He is only worth stashing in deeper 14-team leagues in an IR spot for the foreseeable future.
